And that is precisely what I would want to see from my test No 7 BH, but it goes without saying that Hooper must be playing the style of game Cheika wants. My criticism is not of Hooper per se, but of Cheika and his at times unfathomable game strategies.

I agree we need to contest the breakdown more but I think in a game where the opposition is winning the contact zone, if you start throwing numbers at the breakdown your defence starts leaking like a sieve.

I want to see what our tactics look like when our forwards are closer to parity. Hopefully it happens tomorrow night.

It is always about accuracy, decision making and effectiveness. If I see another dope do a dumb, late ineffective clean out just to be a muppet flopping on the ground while someone runs though the defensive line

effective and accuracy ... Then you don't need 5 people pile in :) --- Late and from the side and then get stuck so the HB can score in the corner .. arrrggghhh..

But it's test rugby, and our first win is inbound, lets be serious would have been pretty special effort to beat the bok at ellis park

I didn't realise important this match is... A loss will put us back 7th or 8th in the rankings but with a big loss we drop right down according to World Rugby

  • If they lose by more than 15 points and Fiji beat Japan by the same margin, the Wallabies will drop to 10th and be ranked below Fiji for the first time

I wonder if KB (Kurtley Beale) will play like he did when he came on last week and cement his place as starting fullback or will go missing and make the case for him being a supersub or "finisher"?

It will not matter either way unless we rock up at the coal face.
We need a much improved scrum and presence at the breakdown from our pack.

One or two of our forwards need to muscle up, lead the defensive line and put some hits on. LSL (Lukhan Salakaia-Loto) and Izack Rodda are obvious candidates there.

I reckon a couple of big, dominant tackles in the first 10 minutes to set the tone will make all the difference tomorrow night.

BH, the Argy forwards do big, dominant tackles quite well too.
So your scenario could go either way.

I think we need angry Arnold to be honest, I think there's a massive gain in getting Sio back in the front row, he hits hard and will make a difference, and then Slipper in the second half will keep that going, HJH (Harry Johnson-Holmes) is one for the future, but Slipper Latu Thor sounds so much better then last weeks front row.

LSL (Lukhan Salakaia-Loto) need's to go nuts for the first half, really hammer people and then bring on Jones.

it's not about isolating players. What we haven't seen probably since the RWC 15, and I'm thinking the Wales game perhaps?, is the pack all man up and be aggressive together. If they did, I have no doubt that Arnold, LSL (Lukhan Salakaia-Loto), Rodda, Isi, AAA and Hooper can match the Puma pack.

We just don't see it enough.

From my memory, Kane Douglas really helped lead our defensive line speed in the 2015 RWC and the rest of our forwards followed and we were aggressive and accurate.

I think we need to find who that person is in the tight five currently and get them driving it and the others will follow.

I know they all need to as a pack, but I'm looking for a leader, to set the tone, remember when we beat Ireland in the first test Beale hit someone Korobetia did the same. I think there's alot to be said about line speed, effectiveness and accuracy in defense.. if we can get that dominance early with a few big shots. It sets up the game.

I think our pack was missing other leaders against the Springboks. Slipper will get it back quickly but he was essentially a fresh face again after his absence.

We missed Sio and Ala'alatoa big time. Kepu has never really been that guy and is prone to silly penalties so him leading our defensive line would not be great.

Rodda needs to step up as he is a leadership sort of guy and has been a consistent selection for a year now. If Rory Arnold can feel comfortable knowing that it's his spot to lose for the season rather than being on the bubble like in previous years then he could also provide that.

The best teams are full of leaders. I feel like we lacked that last weekend particularly in the forwards.

Sio and Ala'alatoa are key, those boys really are coming into there prime, and after a massive super rugby, and get through a mountain of work we missed them in SA. Sio's back, and the team looks much better for it.

That was what was so disappointing after the first Irish test last year. In that first half, Coleman, Hooper, and Koroibete all made a bunch of bone-crunchers, our line speed was excellent and we were pressuring the break down, it really felt like Australian rugby had turned the corner after a couple of years of torrid Super and Wallaby performances. I don’t think we’ve seen that aggression in defence since. I’m really hoping we rekindle it this weekend.

Obviously, the Argentinians are a much improved side and are very competitive but I’m hoping we don’t give them too much respect and sit back and wait for them passively. Hopefully, Cheika is reminding our boys we scored a shit ton of points against them in one half at their own ground and it’s time to do the same again and send a message.
