I agree, I remember a statement from either Cheika or Waratahs that said they have a keen focus to give more emphasis on the grass-roots next year. I'll also wait for some confirmation, utter disbelief if it's Uni.

Would it be productive to send him West? He just pissed off the entire League community and walked out on their AFL side. If anything it could be counter productive to do so.

We need to do something to support and encourage rugby players and supporters in the west (actually, Parramatta is the centre of Sydney, demographically). If he does not play for the Two Blues, all genuine rugby people should hang their heads in shame.

Some of the "league community" are rugby people at heart, and they will be delighted if he turns out for the Two Blues.

Spot on. And Taf can teach him something about passion and loyalty.

It would have been productive to send him anywhere but the club he is going to.
lets put it in perspective, it is basically a ceremonial signing.
No one expects he will play a substantial number of games for any club.
Him turning up at Uni won't turn any heads, raise any more interest in the club, as he will be just one more of the 30 odd? pro players in their ranks.
had he signed with just about any other club, it would have generated some excitement in the club.Who would know what might have been leveraged out of it.

...and if he does get to play any club games its for a club that doesn't need him in order for them to be competitive.
Its ridiculous that there wasn't an ABSU clause in his s 15 contract.

drummoyne oval has a nice new set of flood lights so they probably cant afford him. Balmain it is

Have been told that Drummoyne oval lights have been funded by IPL interests.

Our time zone is apparently attractive for the IPL TV interests. They don't give a toss that no one will be at the game, just that they can broadcast the games at a time to maximise sub-continent gambling opportunities.

The Dirty Reds may even be squeezed out of Drummoyne Oval by Honest John the Bookie and his mates.

evidently the low flying 747s dont interfere with viewer "enjoyment": I thought I noticed some other work had been done there suggesting they were anticipating a crowd?

that is very interesting. Is it the same story with Manuka in Canbera who just got new lights, or are they taxpayer funded?
