Anesi is definitely way less than a Carter.
Problem with using Anesi as a scale of measurement is that he does nothing. A player worth 3 Anesis is still, mathematically worth nothing.
You're being pretty harsh. Granted the guy hasn't set the comp on fire, but he's been solid enough back there. Already this year we've seen shockers from Mitchell and Beale covering the back area and it wasn't so long ago I'd cringe every time SNK got near the pill.
No. I'm not. He's a marquee player (whatever the fark that means), has played a Test, and whenever he runs the ball back everyone knows he won't pass, and almost certainly won't break the line. Hardly a defensive conundrum for the opposition. He should be doing more. He isn't a green clubbie that's been pushed up to S14 prematurely.
And being better than the others mentioned (which is debatable) at 15 is hardly a glowing recommendation. Peter Hewat had more X-factor than this guy.

i still dont understand the marquee player at all, if we had a shortfall of a player in a certain position then you sign one to fill the void but in doing so damage the chance to blood a new player in that position.

if your just signing one for name value then your putting an aussie player out anyway.

it just lessons things for everyone involved. if they wanna do it then just open the comp up and have south africans/zealanders/aussies play for whatever franchise in whatever country.

Carter's form this year has been good and that has changed the whole carter scale, I guess thats inflation for you. He still has limitations in his game which will prevent him from being a 1st choice Rollaby, same goes for Burgess IMO. Anesi would be lucky to be 0.5 Carters this year.
Much better except for his Speed and passing. I'd say he is worth 1 tom carter circa 2009.

No. I'm not. He's a marquee player (whatever the fark that means), has played 22 minutes off the bench against Fiji in a 91-0 warm up for the BIL, and whenever he runs the ball back everyone knows he won't pass, and almost certainly won't break the line. Hardly a defensive conundrum for the opposition. He should be doing more. He isn't a green clubbie that's been pushed up to S14 prematurely.

Thanks Moses. It doesn't change the fact he is supposed to be more than a fair to middling player. Anyone who gets any Test time for the ABs shouldn't be a complete muppet. He should bring more game.

The trouble is, Nick, the bastard just will NOT pass the pill.

Doesn't matter because you run him at the line 5 times and then the 6th time, Hangers goes the double-pump and hits Horne on the angle, running into the yawning gap left by their backs drifting in to take Carter.

Let's stop this thinking that Aussies should always have a second playmaker. Since Rod Macqueen started smacking All Blacks silly with his sheer brain power and authority, we haven't needed one. Just put a couple of real bastards in the centre line, and let slip the dogs of war.

Did I forget to mention I'm a genius?

What do you mean by shockers from Mitchell and Beale? Obviously Mitchell's complete disaster against the Lions springs to mind, but what are you thinking of as regards Beale (and wouldn't you consider his positive contribution to mitigate these "shockers"?)

Was it the first or second game of the 2009 season when Beale did something like that? A fast flat cut out to Horne steaming into the gap.

think that was the first game wasn't it? Cracking Rob Horne try. Only thing he did all year.

Pure gold. Although, can you imagine a feral Carter (or Barnes/Halangahu for that matter). You meet Gray and you have respect, you meet the other guys and you want to get your wax/gel/product out and compare hairdressers.

No I can't Riddler. These young blokes are all metrosexuals, which I think means fags that screw chicks. Bald fat old me confused.

Saw Greysie at the SFS one night in the Members area (LG used to be my dealer when I was allowed out to the rugby). He looked like he'd had enough to be tipsy and that's what a rugby player should be.

I won't grow tired of repeating this about Anesi... I used to rate him as a really good S14 player but since his awful broken neck he's been a shadow of his old self. This is why he was struggling to make the bench before he came to the Tahs.

that play really got my hopes up - the rest is painful history

I've never really understood backs (well maybe the occasional 'blue cattle dog' style half back), and that was before ear rings, coloured boots, tattoos (were you in gaol or the navy?) and hair products. I thought the backs' job was to tackle the other team's backs, if they are stupid enough to give them the ball.

I bet I'm more tired of seeing him playing for the Waratahs than you are of repeating it.
