I'll be playing 4th grade on the weekend. Missing a few players in the club so a few have been called up, but we still managed to cobble together a pretty decent team. I'll say what positions are missing after the game! ;)

How come you guys are playing at Centennial Park this weekend?

We try to play a couple of games there each year. Dont always have access to our usual ground depending on school fixtures and also most of our players are based in the eastern suburbs so just makes sense.

Think I might be able to get down and come off the bench. Watch out for their front row though. Weighs about 420kgs, coached by the best loosehead prop in the world and averages about 5 tight heads a game.

Ouch. They are going to have a huge weight advantage on us. Our props are normally good enough to hold their own at this level, and get the better of the weaker teams, but the best few scrums in the lower grade are a class above.

I'll probably be packing down in the second row so might be in for some pain :(

OK, I'll bite. Who? For what period?

Maybe it is a biased Tahs/Wallabies opinion.

Not sure if you watched Ash but a couple of close games in the higher grades. We were very lucky to escape with win in 1st Grade

a little more gloating or vicarious living.

My lad scored 9 tries on the weekend. Loved it!

Didn't end up going, unfortunately. I was considering showing up mid way through thirds, but then got a bout of the lazies and mooched around home after going out for a pie.

Who won seconds and thirds as well? Good to see the firsts competed very well against a top team, our firsts have been up and down this year.

You guys won 3rd grade while our guys got up in Twos. Field was very slippery and there was quite a bit of breeze that made conditions pretty tough.

That was the first time Ive seen our first grade play this year and they certainly didnt deserve to win. One of your 2nd rowers dominated most of the match with some of our guys seemingly scared of him but a spectacular try in the first half against the run of play and a messy forwards effort with a minute to go got us over the line. We badly need some of our 24 unavailable first and 2nd graders to come back if we want to stay in the hunt for club championship.

Comming back to play rugby after a few years!

Hey guys,

Just thought I would start a thread about this - not sure if right section (new user) - well I have decided to put on the boots again for next season - I have had a 4-5 yr lay-off from playing - still watched the super 14, tests, club footy but as I said have not played for a good 4-5 yrs.

Last time I played I was playing u18/u16's - Iam now 22 (23 in Jan) so I know Iam to old to ever make a "real" go at playing rugby but I really just want to play because I miss the fun of it and also the fun of playing a team sport (even though I have only ever played rugby).

Just wondering if any of you guys have had a good lay-off from the sport and come back with success? I would really love to crack 2nds in my local comp but of course the 1sts are always the ultimate goal - I always played at a high level comming up as a junior so Iam used to playing at the top level but Iam now realistic about where I will prob place seeing as though I have had such a long time off and seeing as though Iam/will be 23 when I start again....

So anyone got any feedback who has done these? or any advice you would give me comming back to play after 4-5 yrs off?? Iam a strength and conditioning coach so I will be spending the next 6 months preping myself for the season!

Cheers!

Where abouts are you AB?

By the sounds of it you should go OK. If you are fit and strong you will pick up everything else quite easily. It's a bit like riding a bike. You never forget how to do it.

Boet tell us more ? Your position, your team, exct A photo or two will also be nice.

I'm a loose forward. Haven't specialised in a position yet.

Anyway pictures, there aren't any really good ones since the Sydney Uni photographer only put up the ones where his players look like they're winning, but here are some from earlier on in the season haha:
