Now for something slightly different: In 1908 the founder of Rugby League in Australia, J J Giltinan said that in two years there would be no rugby union, but only rugby league in NSW.

The predicted deaths of either code has never eventuated. 106 years later they're both here.

I'll raise you: in 1995 the first-ever CEO of the Auckland Warriors, some blow-in from AFL who's name I forget but do recall went back to AFL & got fired, boldly predicted that at some time in the near future there would be a generation of kids who wouldn't know who came first, the Warriors or the All Blacks. As if.

In 1998 John O'Neill said that in 20 years time there will be an amicable merge of RL and Union, but because of the global nature of rugby, the game will be played under union rules. Still got 3 years to go but I can't see it happening :)

You can always rely on JON to win a talking shit comp. Makes the Warriors guy (Robson is starting to sound right name-wise) look like a fucking genius. Amicable how? Like the "amicable" agreement that NZ wouldn't sub-host the '03 RWC?

Well that was a pretty brutal second half, after what I assume was a boring-as-batshit first half.

Great crowd. Really made some noise (though about what I'm not sure*) and the two best players on the field were Poms.

And maybe finally South Sydney supporters can shut the fuck up about injustice or destiny or fate or whatever. They got 200,000 to their protest ralllies to get back into the sport, but can't get a tenth of that to show up to a home game on a regular basis. Strange.

* The great thing about league is you only need to look up once per minute to see what they're going to do with their last tackle.

I'm glad you asked. South Sydney Rabbitohs was originally a rugby union team. So at the end of the day, we won.

How would they go about becoming a Rugby playing club again?

That would probably destroy the Wicks if they did.

Didn't the Eels "own" The Mighty Two Blues a while ago, back in the days of Denis Fitzgerald?

Anyone notice in the media reports on South's Premiership, they highlight that Sam Burgess has been given the perfect farewell, but strangely they don't mention where he is going.

The ethos of not booing the kicker clearly doesn't exist in League. Nice boo that Abbott got at the presentation and nobody has done more kicking than Abbott in the last few years.

To be fair, it lends itself to multitasking a lot more readily than union. It doesn't require a hell of a lot of focus, and if anything does require looking up from your laptop and phone, it'll most likely be replayed while the refs break up the scuffle.

Yeah they will kick, and it is boring.
But it is a much better tactic than the dribbles they have been trying lately.
Link,if you have run out of ideas, get the 10 to put one up in the cnr for Izzie.
Can't be worse than the shit they have been trying.

Anyone catch the Rugby section of the backpage this week?

It was obvious that the host has no idea (never thought he did) and did not watch the game but is happy to take a cheap shot.

He said "The wallabies were up 14 nil when I went to bed, what happened?". What time did he got to bed? Did he just see it was overseas and assumed it was in the middle of the night?

Squires was at the League grand final so I doubt he was going to bed at 9am.

It is a shame they gave such poor coverage especially when they had Bosnich on the panel, he seems to genuinely love rugby and generally has pretty good input to discussions.

Surprised no one has posted this.
Using the link as it is said to be age sensitive - presumably you have to be under a certain mental age to do it:
