James hooper played rugby (subbies) for a few years as a breakaway. He doesn't hate rugby but us prepared to do and say things that annoy others. Don't forget these guys are on the show to prompt debate plus hoopers job is to report on league.

@spikhaza - the idea was fine, but the execution is not really within our forum rules, so sorry, it had to go.

If we do win the Bledisoe be prepared for the League media to do a full on blitz on Rugby next year.

With the Tah's winning Super Rugby, a successful Bledisoe followed by a Northern tour the opportunities for Rugby to gather back some lost ground are very good, possibly even better than after the 2003 RWC. This will make the League media very feral

I am a little lost on the build up of vitriol vs some guy that nobody outside of rugby league has ever heard of....

His comments are hardly that damaging it's clear from both of them that he was actually watching. Any publicity is good publicity I would have thought. He probably just wrote it for a wind-up, and he certainly succeeded.

Gagger binned me once for thin-skinned disease. I'm not suggesting binning/hypocrisy or anything (that reads sarcastic, but it's not meant to), but seems some of you guys are suffering from the same.

Yes, I agree MR. The more rabid elements of the NRL press haven't bothered mentioning rugby for the past few years, because it's been nowhere. Except maybe for the Lions tour last year. When rugby puts on a spectacle like the Super Rugby final, with both great play and great atmosphere, the NRL boys start to feel a bit of heat. Whatever. Best thing we, and the whole rugby community, can do, is to focus on making rugby great, from local to international level, and not rising to the bitchy whinings of the Daily Tele.

The only problem is that the rag has a lot of influence on the masses and the perceptions people and potential sponsors have of our game

The way to change that is to make the pay masters at NEWS Ltd notice the interest in Rugby. They don't mind the critical rugby comments because it doesn't currently effect their revenue.

We need to read The rugby articles in the telegraph. If the hits go up, the ad revenue goes up. Nice advertising such as luxury cars, banks etc. NEWS doesn't care who/what brings the revenue they just want more of it.

Likewise don't take the bait on the rugby critical articles in the League section. If the hits go up, which they would have because we put the link here, they want more similar articles that generate interest.

The unfortunate thing is we don't have a big enough active community of fans to change click rates and readership p.Tah

Compare that with fans of Liverpool Football Club. After the 1989 HIllsborough disaster, 'The Sun' (one of the many English equivalents of the Tele) published an article saying that Liverpool fans caused the deaths of each other by rushing a gate.

Needless to say the Sun no longer is published in Liverpool after (rightful) disgust at the article.

Our fanbase is nowhere near active enough to cause that kind of reaction, but our fanbase is strong enough to positively increase readership, and by some way, of our articles if we do well.

I to was lost thinking I was reading the wrong article. So some mungo journalist spouts off about how shit crowds are at NRL games compared to the Super Rugby final (I translated that as a positive to us) while bagging their tv deal (which again is a positive to us) which is well known most punters hate due to they are stuck in standard definition hell (watch block men run around on screen like a 1980 video game) all while killing crowd numbers. Is this not a positive as it provide a "what not to do tv deal-wise and even though its worth a bazillion dollars - and has caused some of the clubs to be on the edge financially and suffering. Does it not also signal that we have the four years they are shackled to it to act?

Then his lowlight - the Super Rugby final "going down to a penalty goal shoot out in the last 3 minutes". Ok, so HIS lowlight? So he wanted it settled by more tries? Um - I read this as a positive that he wanted more of the action it provided! If you didn't see the game it is being reported to have come down to the last 3 mins and penalties would you have been curious to see what he was talking about? - I know I would have like so many others. Double points to us for that one!

I have to say people, are we in rugby ready to play in the big kids sandpit and ready to let go of mummy's hand and rough it up with the big kids yet? There seems to be a lot about feelings and things about the mean NRL man calling me fat etc. Of FFS man up!

The unfortunate thing is we don't have a big enough active community of fans to change click rates and readership p.Tah

You may actually be surprised if you test the waters. One things I can tell you is that the foxsport poll in-game can be manipulated with about 10mins effort!

It only takes one line in a single article for people to take the bait and increase the circulation and also sow the seed you want sown. Case in point.

So, time to man people - NRL have issues and are stuck with it for 4 years (thanks league media for making this very public for us to use against you) , AFL crowds are at a major low so its time for OUR game to put its back in to it and cease the opportunity. So the only question is can YOU people to put on your big boy pants and get ready to battle. One thing we need is to be smart - so stop getting sucked in by the single figure IQ of the mungo press and our own self worth!

In the Daily Terror today there were 7 pages of NRL before the rugby.

Case for the prosecution rests, m'lord.

The hysteria around State of Origin was laughable. Especially considering the quality of the games, I'll always do my best to avoid clicking on any league-related stories on any of the news ltd websites

While I would not deny any one the chance to watch a sport they like, I reckon there is something in this.

I'm going to consciously avoid any article or social media about NRL from this point onwards and make sure I get every device I have onto union articles and polls at every opportunity.

god bless you Fitzy. I'll go a step further and continue to badmouth all aspects of mungo at any opportunity. From the depravity of the players to the actual game itself. Every aspect. mungos....
