Folau isn’t fighting for his playing future at the Waratahs or Wallabies, he is just chasing a payout. In which case I wish he would just positively fuck off so that rugby union headlines are hijacked for stories about Folau-RA legal proceedings for the next 3-6 months

I think this is one of these issues where two diametrically opposed truths collide

I am sure some homosexuals would feel hurt by Folau's comments

I am also sure Folau believes he states this stuff for their good because he truly believes they will go to hell if they don't repent

And what do the sponsors paying the bills believe?

two diametrically opposed truths colliding seems to be a generational discussion...

I am sure there are white supremacist out there who truly believe they are part of a aryan superior master race, and that intermixing with other races is destroying the purity of their origins and causing the downfall of civilisation.

I am also sure that there are other races like Jews who believe they aren't inferior and would feel hurt by white supremacist comments.

The irony is that a belief in the archaic concept of "hell" is a precondition to being hurt by what he tweeted. If a person does not believe in "hell", why feel threatened by what is essentially a fictional punishment?

Because there are plenty of you girls and boys who are at a confusing time in their lives learning about their sexuality and are told by one of Australia’s biggest stars that what they’re feeling isn’t normal and are a lesser human being in their eyes.

This issue isn’t just about those older and wiser people in our society who are able to cast Israel comments to the side as being stupid.

Yep - ranks right up there with the fear factor of not receiving a present from Santa for being naughty.
Religious zealot posts fundamentalist drivel. Nothing to see here.
Don’t get all the fuss.
And the comment that his rants might influence our kids is rubbish - give them more credit that that.
As a former drunken fornicator and currrent atheist I’m not losing sleep over his post. Nor are any of my homosexual friends.
We need to stop being so pc and quit being offended on behalf of others.
People have a right to think/post their opinions just as we have a right to ignore them for the tripe they are.
His rants are more damaging to himself that they are to anyone else

You don’t need to believe in hell to understand what condemning someone to hell represents.

We have thousands of years of fictional punishments or religious ideologies been the root cause of persecution, death and pain.

That maybe a bit of an overstatement

What evidence is there to support that?
People follow Izzy because of his sporting prowess - despite what comes out of his mouth not because of it.
You don’t think confused kids have googled their sexuality already?
Of course they have - and they will have come up with loads worse than this fundamentalist Christian ideology.
There are lots of assumptions being made here.

Fuck, do we really doubt that being young and gay, which can already be bloody tough, is only made harder by stars spouting vitriolic shit like this.

How many openly gay men do we have across the four football codes right now? Zero. How many gay footy stars do young gay rugby players have to look up to? Zero.

Clearly not a very inclusive environment with lots of people living a lie every day. We are not in an environment where we can afford kooks like Izzy disparaging homosexuality.

The words of a well known atheist seem quite appropriate here.

“that’s what the worlds like - people see something they don’t like and they expect it to stop, as opposed to dealing with their own emotions.
They expect everyone to care about their thing as much as they do.
And it’s why the worlds getting worse.”

There are literally hundreds of journal articles discussing the issue of social media and bullying, and the impact this has on mental health, especially prevalent in youth and at risk minorities.

I believe there are homosexual people with faith.

Correct
And they are about social media and bullying.
Which is a completely different issue.

Don’t get me wrong. I don’t support his “vitriolic shit” and agree it is misplaced and not what we want in rugby or society in general.
But it’s his opinion and it is going to have far more impact on him personally than any of his targets.
His personal beliefs/posts will not change any of the other issues you raise as they are more driven by other forces than the occasional misguided post of a quasi missionary who is trying to save the heathens.
