And what do the sponsors paying the bills believe?I think this is one of these issues where two diametrically opposed truths collide
I am sure some homosexuals would feel hurt by Folau's comments
I am also sure Folau believes he states this stuff for their good because he truly believes they will go to hell if they don't repent
The irony is that a belief in the archaic concept of "hell" is a precondition to being hurt by what he tweeted. If a person does not believe in "hell", why feel threatened by what is essentially a fictional punishment?

Because there are plenty of you girls and boys who are at a confusing time in their lives learning about their sexuality and are told by one of Australia’s biggest stars that what they’re feeling isn’t normal and are a lesser human being in their eyes.
This issue isn’t just about those older and wiser people in our society who are able to cast Israel comments to the side as being stupid.

There are lots of assumptions being made here.
What evidence is there to support that?
People follow Izzy because of his sporting prowess - despite what comes out of his mouth not because of it.
You don’t think confused kids have googled their sexuality already?
Of course they have - and they will have come up with loads worse than this fundamentalist Christian ideology.

I believe there are homosexual people with faith. The irony is that a belief in the archaic concept of "hell" is a precondition to being hurt by what he tweeted. If a person does not believe in "hell", why feel threatened by what is essentially a fictional punishment?
There are literally hundreds of journal articles discussing the issue of social media and bullying, and the impact this has on mental health, especially prevalent in youth and at risk minorities.
Fuck, do we really doubt that being young and gay, which can already be bloody tough, is only made harder by stars spouting vitriolic shit like this.
How many openly gay men do we have across the four football codes right now? Zero. How many gay footy stars do young gay rugby players have to look up to? Zero.
Clearly not a very inclusive environment with lots of people living a lie every day. We are not in an environment where we can afford kooks like Izzy disparaging homosexuality. We're allowed to have feelings these days and men are allowed to be upset or hurt, it's not shameful - grow up.
Correct
And they are about social media and bullying.
Which is a completely different issue.
