The impending Hooper vs Pocock Dilemma

Yep. Hooper stood off nearly all of the rucks in the final minutes. Had a crack at the one right on the sideline but that was about it. That was surprising for me. I assume he was waiting for the right one but leading by 3 and time up, I don't think you should be that fussy.

Pocock was immense all around the park for most of the game, though Hooper went missing in stretches. Pocock's leadership on the park is on another level though. I liked Hooper in defense but I don't think he was busy enough at the breakdown and ball running between the pair was a wash. Poey picked up at least two important penalties for the Brumbies. Pocock won the battle, neither has won the war yet.

Tonight won't change anyone's opinion of either player. Pocock fans will think he was better, Hooper fans will think he won. And there is a valid case for both viewpoints.

To me it was like watching the guitar and banjo duelling scene from Deliverance. Both were playing different instruments, but playing them so well that it was a thing of beauty when done simultaneously. I stood and applauded Pocock's turnovers, as I did Hooper's incredible ball-running in the tight and loose.

That is right, so the frustrations in debating this thread. George Smith was a rank ahead on all of the above when he was at his best. Plus also played 6 and 8

One thing that was clear is that they were two of the most influential players on the park. It certainly raises the temptation of trying both in the starting XV. Both had huge games.

Hooper isn't and never will be an international level 7. Doesn't dominate the ruck enough. No big enough. Poey 100% for me.

Sorry, let me get this straight. You think Michael Hooper ISN'T an international level flanker?

Mate, even his worst enemy would acknowledge that he certainly is, no matter what else they thought of him.

Statements like that really do your credibility no good what-so-ever.

Quelle surprise.

Cyclo, Why are you surprised when in a very even two horse race a Brumbies' fan thinks Pocock finished in front, but no comment when a died in the wool MMM/Tahs' fan thinks Hooper finished in front"Interesting to me that most of the impartial (Reds) supporters seem to give the win to Pocock marginally.

Because I'm at the pub watching on my phone. Some will claim one is better and the other is, by default, rubbish. I was not surprised by the other poster's statement. I personally think both are great. Not sure why some have to slate one to praise the other. Good enough?

Its a pity Gill is stuck with the rubbish the Reds have served up this year. He has been a bright point in an otherwise very disappointing side.

Add in McMahon and a few other youngsters starting to hit their straps and the depth is looking good in the back row. Now for THP, 10, 9 and some genuine pace on the wings, and a 15 who can kick......

I think Folau is mind-fucked when it comes to kicking. Tonight, I saw him kick it 50-60m on the fly, quite flat. And yet he seems to struggle when he thinks about it. It's a real issue that he has not been coached better in this discipline in rugby. He CAN kick well, but he usually DOESN'T. It should not be so. He is capable, but not trained. I don't get it.

Maybe I should have said "execute a kick".

On that note I have to say I am very please that Foley has been working on his kicking game (from hand). The improvement in the length and accuracy of his kicks is noticeable.

It is a hallmark of the Chieka/Gibson/Grey regime that many individuals have improved previously questionable areas of their games.

** If anybody is wondering at the thread-jack, yes it was intentional, need to divert from the constant spiral Hooper/Pocock........**

feel free to resume the merry go round when you wish.
