Slim makes the great point that even at his best in 2014, Beale still had deficiencies in his game and lack of other options allowed for these to be overlooked. Now other options exist.

I think Foley has been under rated. Beale has to outplay him for the 10.

I also don't think Beale is a 10.

Ab-so-fecking-lutely.

Beale is not a Super rugby class 10, let alone test. He was a Superb schoolboy 10, because at schoolboy level your best back plays 10 and everyone else finds their position. He's an excellent fullback, but Folau has the wood on him in EVERY department at the moment. There isn't a single thing that Beale is better at, though neither of them have the kicking game Mogg does.

It's a hell of a 3 way battle, and an excellent one to have. If only it was like this in all positions.

Lets not make the mistake again about playing guys out of position just to fit them in the team.

There are plenty of great options at wing without having to bring Beale into that spot.

If Folau and Cooper keep their form, then I can only see Beale being a bench option (with the ability to make a big impact).

This is the most astute comment so far on this thread. Beale, as with JOC (James O'Connor), is not a winger, and should not be considered in favour of specialists in those positions. Izzy Folau will be (almost is) one of our best ever No 15s. No way in the world anyone should replace him in that possie. I don't know where Beale should/could be considered. He is not a test No 10 imo, and falls behind QC (Quade Cooper), To'omua, Foley and Lilo for that spot. He doesn't play 12 or 13 and is behind To'omua, Lilo, Godwin, Kuridrani and AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) imo. Backup No 15 looks the only option now and he has to prove he comes back better than Foley and Mogg.

I really want a button for 'none of the above'.

I agree with all of this bar the final part! Apart from 13, I can't think of a position where we don't have fierce competition for the Jersey.

Let's not forget that prior to Izzy, the highball was one of the Wallabies greatest weaknesses and one which other teams would target them with good return.... Now with Izzy's aerial skills combined with QC (Quade Cooper)'s playmaking skills it has made the kick return a real strength of the Wallabies, teams are unwilling to kick as much and are trying to run it more, this works well for the Wallabies style of play.

Izzy is the Wallaby fullback as long as he is fit, don't move him to outside centre, don't put him on the wing to accommodate Beale, leave him at fullback.

As for Beale in the team, he isn't a winger, the Wallabies are playing well at the moment with big strong direct running wingers, they provide QC (Quade Cooper) with a target and provide the back-line with go forward and straighten up the attack.. Too often with Beale and QC (Quade Cooper) combining the back line movement would be too lateral as everyone is hopping, stepping, twirling and no-one was going forward.

Beale is barely a sub going on current players form..Lilo, To'omua, QC (Quade Cooper), Izzy are all ahead of him in their respective positions.

Beale should be looked at as a 13.
I doubt he would make the Wallaby 15 but he could be very good there.
Good call - be very interested to see how he would go in the 13 jersey. His outside break and passing game would be significantly better than anyone playing that position in Australia. Would like to see him trialled at 13 for the tahs playing an old school Gary Ella like role with Folau, ACC and Crawford running off him. Conrad Smith is the best 13 in the world for mine for what he does for his teammates. Not sure whether Beale could be that good, but think it is wort having a look.

He might be a little quicker off the mark.

It's a long way off, and a full season of super rugby will tell a better story.

Beale seems like the kinda guy that is gifted with an insane amount of ability who has never been pushed too hard (and consequently never had to really try too hard either).

Now he has.

I don't really think he should even be on the bench, given his form over the last two - three years. Certainly I don't want him playing (or anyone else) playing out of position to accommodate him in the team.

It's the next season where he will show what he is really made of.

He could replace Horne as the second fly half
I think Cheika might be loath to change too much - Horne and AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) worked very well as a unit outside Foley. Horne actually was showing some of the potential from years ago, and seemed much more at home at 12 than 13. Defensively, the line would be weaker with Beale at 12, and I'm not sure Beale would add as much at as he might with more space at the back (off the bench!).

Although what an in-form Beale does offer is immense X factor. He can often sniff out a try that others cannot. And he, like To'omua for Cooper at Wallabies level, gives the fly half more options.

Izzy has a poor pass right to left as we saw in the test match. I'm assuming Beale's pass from the left hand is better.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I'm meant left to right.

Provided Beale recaptures his 2010 form, we have to find a place for him. What people forget is that at his best, Beale could not only score tries nobody else could score, he gifted those around him tries. Mitchell and O'Connor were vastly improved by Beales ability to straighten, draw defenders and release the pass at the perfect moment.
Folau offers so much, not least of all absolute surety under the high ball, but he doesn't yet offer that ability that Beale had.
So I think this is all very dependent on the next S15 season, Beale might regain his form and improve his high ball skills, or Folau might improve his passing game.
Whatever the case, both players at their best deserve a spot in the team. However, and I say this with some sadness, I'm not sure if Beale will get back to that 2010 form which so astonished us.
Whatever the case, with Folau, Mogg and possibly Beale knocking on Ewen's door demanding the fullback role, we've got depth there we didn't have a couple of years ago.
