I won't often get the chance to say this, cyclo, but: you have confused PaarlBok with #1 Tah.

Could happen to anybody.

With all due respect, Scarfy, I don't think I have. I may have misinterpreted what Numero Uno Tah-Boy meant, but I couldn't confuse ANYONE with PB - he's a one-off (and that's a good thing, Paarl, if you're listening).

Crusaders by 10. Stormers by 2100. Tahs are no hope. Bashed silly by the canes they won't back up.

YEAH!!!
not with that cross word jerseys.
They were for charity, PB, kids with cerebral palsy.
The Stormers could support a good charity in one game - maybe wear Lions jerseys! ;)

ach. shame. (thats the end of my south african heritage that will be posted.)
I'm saying the Lions are a charity case, not that they are like anyone with cerebral palsy. Don't overinterpret, if that's what you were doing. ;)

No, I wasn't. Every saffer I know (my parents & cousins) say that, and I said that because I feel sorry for the lions

Bakkies déjà vu for the Bulls

Pretoria – Bulls lock Bakkies Botha will appear in front of a judicial officer at Loftus Versfeld on Monday after he was cited for alleged foul play in Saturday’s Super 14 match against the Stormers.

According to citing officer Freek Burger, Botha entered a ruck without using his arms and in the process made contact with Gio Aplon.

Aplon received medical treatment, but played on without problems and later created a try for Jaque Fourie.

For Botha it’s a similar citing to the one in last year’s series against the British and Irish Lions. He was then suspended and his Springbok team-mates wore armbands in the third Test against the Lions in support of him.

There is thus either a problem with his technique or he’s being targeted by citing officers.

The Bok camp certainly felt last year that he was being targeted, but it remains to be seen whether he will get any sympathy.

It is a matter of déjà vu for the Bulls, with Botha also having appeared in front of a judicial officer at the corresponding time last year for knocking Ryan Kankowski in the face with an open hand.

Botha was let off the hook, but the Bulls lost JP Nel to a suspension and had to play with a new centre pairing against the Crusaders due to Wynand Olivier being injured.

Fortunately there are no such problems this year due to coach Frans Ludeke’s decision to rest his senior players in Cape Town. The only question is who Olivier’s centre partner will be.

Jaco Pretorius has just recovered from an ankle injury and may not be as sharp as usual. Jacques-Louis Potgieter played with Olivier when the Crusaders visited two weeks ago, but the pair did not defend well.

Stephan Dippenaar has played with Olivier in midfield the most, but may also be considered on the wing in place of suspended Gerhard van den Heever.

Neither Jaco van der Westhuyzen nor Deon Helberg put up their hands at Newlands, but Van der Westhuyzen’s experience and good kicking boot may be decisive at the Orlando Stadium.

The Crusaders had to stay behind in Sydney for a day due to having to sacrifice business class seats to the Waratahs. The long flight to South Africa is just one of the aspects they will have to deal with, but coach Todd Blackadder does not see it as a problem.

“The guys are eager for another chance against the Bulls, especially as we feel things went against us a little last time.”

:lmao: THAT is a high class statement.
Well to find a smallies targrt like Muscito dont help his course at all. ::) Thought Aplon was stone cold after that hit, flippen brave from the little man to get back into action and just keep on playing like he have not been hit by a rocket.

Ditto Klein Flippies hit on Schalk, late and shoulder charged. Thought there goes our everything but this shows the Stormers current spirit.

Sorry PB but you are going over the top there. A hit either causes damage to your body or doesnt. Whether you pop your shoulder or not has nothing to do with your spirit at any one moment.

Is there actually a law in rugby union prohibitting charging into a ruck? I know I was penalised on the weekend for not binding to a player during a clear out.

Blessing in disguise for us. He'll deservedly get 4 weeks minimum, Danie will start and show us why he is the 3rd best lock in SA, behind Victor and Andries.

Bakkies has been useless since he came back, only giving away penalties and not contributing to our results.

Haven't ever seen Danie play better than Bakkies. Haven't seen many Bulls games this year, though.

i always got charged for charging into the mauls, which somehow ended in a collapse (because im full buff and stuff :p) so i would think so, though it might be just classified as dangerous play

Boet not sure if we understand each other here. Bet you if Muskiet was a poofball player on saturday, they would have buried him by now. Big spirit I mean the fact that both him and Schalk were pretty eager to go back and play after the incidents.

Regarding the Bakkies citing, think its way bit overdone. That law is a bit of a joke , we get that kind of clean outs in every match, maybe not brutal like Bakkies do but not much binding from players entering a ruck.

OK the Stormers coach share my sentiments

Coetzee amazed by Aplon's perfomance

Gio Aplon is small of stature at 74kg, but Stormers coach Allister Coetzee is delighted that he can bank on the right wing’s big heart for Saturday’s Super 14 semivfinal against the Waratahs.

Springbok lock Bakkies Botha on Monday appeared in front of a judicial officer for allegedly dangerously entering a ruck, after which Aplon had to receive medical attention.

Coetzee on Monday expressed his amazement that Aplon was able to get up and play on.

“I have a lot of respect for Gio for staying on the field after such an impact,” said Coetzee.

“He really showed character and that is what is wonderful about the players in this team. They go to war and fight -- nobody hides.”

Aplon did not just get up, but also created one of the Stormers’ tries of the season for Jaque Fourie. He plucked his own kick over the Bulls’ defence from the air, drew a defender and fed the Bok centre for the try.

While a tough and physical clash is expected against the Waratahs, Aplon’s ability as a gamebreaker can prove decisive.

The Stormers know that a huge heart beats in that small body.

“All I can say is that I’m more than happy with Gio’s contribution. He performed really well on the wing at the start of the season and adapted quickly to fullback when we needed him there,” said Coetzee.

“Gio is excellent on attack and his contact skills are particularly good. He also does not hide on defence.

“He’s a natural player with incredible pace and that’s something you can’t coach. His decision-making is also good.”

Aplon’s experience of playing fullback will also be important as the Waratahs are likely to create holes in the Stormers’ watertight defence with some well-placed kicks.

On average the Waratahs kick 27 times per match against the 28 of the Stormers. The Bulls and Sharks are the teams that kick the most -- on average 29 times per game.

“Their kicking really impresses me,” Coetzee says of the Waratahs.

“Berrick Barnes is an accurate kicker. They also have Kurtley Beale and Drew Mitchell with his left foot. That gives them options all over the field. If you can’t get through or around a team, then the route is over.

“The Cheetahs and Brumbies both tried that against us and it’s something we are aware of. Fortunately we have an experienced wing in Bryan Habana who can read those situations very well. Gio, who is on the other wing, has experience of playing fullback and then there is also Joe Pietersen.

“All three of them have the pace to be able to turn around and are also good with scrambling defence.”

The Waratahs are a physical side, but the Stormers are relishing that aspect of the battle.

“Fortunately it’s the aspect of the game the players enjoy the most due to our record on defence,” said Coetzee.

With a lot of tactical kicks expected, it’s unlikely that the Stormers will pick Fijian wing Sireli Naqelevuki this week. Coetzee said that he would like to keep his team unchanged as far as possible.
