Pumpkinhead, that Duncan Hall wasn't the early 80s Duncan Hall was it?
That's nothing, according to the stats above Terrace has produced 24 Aussie Schoolboys and 32 Wallabies. Obviously the Aussie Schoolboys concept only goes back so far.

Aussie schoolboys only date from 1971 however there was a tour to South Africa captained by Peter Robinson of Epping BHS, uncle of Ben Hand in either 1969 or 1970. Epping BHS had 5 players in that first tour.

Of the 16 TSS test players only 7 test caps since Aus schoolboys introduced.

Probably too early to say but Pat McCutcheon might challenge for a back row spot, likewise Damien Fitzpatrick might end up giving Chris Carberry a run for his money.

Far too early, topo. Unless you've got a crystal ball. O'Gorman, Heinrich, Ford and Carberry have the runs on the board, Cutch and Fitzy have a lot of work to do to get near them.

This is a pretty rough team - I'm sure others would substitute players, but its a start.

Scots haven't exactly played their part in producing top front rowers, have they?

Yea, I can agree with majority of those. Didn't realise I'd put Giteau in twice - can't see much when posting from iPhone.

I'd still have Vanders in 6 over Furner - one is currrent Australian 7's the other didn't really play rugby union out of school.

Either way, it'd be nice to have a list of all Eddies reps to pick from. Interesting brainstorming!

3: Richard Nyholt (early 1990's)
4: Rob Simmons (? - 2007)
5: Nathan Sharpe (about 2001 - grade 5 - 12)
6: Scott Higginbottom (didn’t play 1st VX) (? - 2007)
7:
8: Ole Avei (2001)
9: Luke Evans (1999 - 2006)
10: Jonno Lance (2001 - 2007)
11: Peter Jackson
12: Nathan Grey (early 1990's)
13: Wally Fullerton-Smith
14: Luke Moraghan (1999 - 2007)

Not in position order

17: Vitori Buatava (2000-2001)
18:
19: Lloyd Johansson

Buatava was quite sensational at school from what I saw. What was Fullerton-Smith like at rugby?

Years listed are those they played for the Wallabies.

15. Terry Curley (1957-59)
14. Arthur Tonkin (1947-50)
13. Matt Burke (1993-2004)
12. Jack Blomey (1949-50)
11. Bill White (1929-32)
10. Kurtley Beale (2009-present)
9. Luke Burgess (2008-present)
8. John O'Gorman (1961-67)
7. Ted Heinrich (1961-63)
6. Jack Ford (1925-30)
5. Ted Fahey (1912-14)
4. Steve Williams (1980-85) [Captain]
3. Declan Curran (1980-83)
2. Chris Carberry (1973-82)
1. Tony Daly (1989-95)

Notes
15. Curley's career was shortened because of the commencement of his priesthood. I saw him play, and with a different calling he would have been a Wallaby great IMO.

13. Burke played outside centre for Oz Schools and Joeys had a plethora of good fullbacks over the years compared to other positions.

10. Likewise Beale is picked at flyhalf.

7. Heinrich played other backrow positions also, but otherwise I would have had to have picked Lipman, a Pom.

6. Ford played mainly at 8, but he played some at 7 for Oz, and this is my post.

4/5 Williams and Fahey – both Wallaby captains.

3. Tough choice between Curran and Jake Howard whose career coincided with that of Wallaby great Ray Prosser.

I had to rely on my extensive rugby library to read up on some of the players who I didn't see play (everyone prior to 15. Terry Curley.)

Did you take Steve Devine into account? I'd have him over Burgo any day...

Plenty of players named from schools who have gone on to be Wobs, but what about the best coach from those great rugby factories. Not many if any have gone on to National honours, but they have had significant impact on the future careers of their charges, and many have left a long term legacy at their schools.

It's a shame that Australian rugby relies so heavily on these prestigious ****-factories...

I wonder if the same can be said for the Saffers, The Darkness, Soap Dodgers, Spud Bashers etc.

International correspondents to reply.

ie, would approximately 40% of your internationals have come from approx 15 schools, with a couple of key schools producing about 5% of your internationals.

Brisbane Boys College (BBC) have a few handy players in Horwill, Genia, John Roe and Roger Gould (I think) to name a few.

Its true reliance on only a few schools is seen as a bad thing, however Lee Grants view is also noteworthy in that rugby wouldn't have survived. The fact is, rugby wouldn't be so reliant on these prestigous schools if mungos didn't exist/mungoball was never invented/reassimilated into real rugby in the last three decade.
A focus on Grassroots is important, but maintaining the games status in australia is also, the only hope to spread from this spot is for mungoball to slowly recede, however many other people would refute having "rowdy" people at games etc.

St Edmunds Canberra had John Papahatzis and Pat Langtry; both of which have had a significant influence on schoolboy rugby.

14. Daniel Conn Greg Jeloudev
13. Stirling Mortlock
12. Daniel Halangahu James Hilgendorf
11. Ben Batger
10. James Hilgendorf Billy Sheehan
9. Daniel Halangahu **
8. Hugh Rose Ross Reynolds
7. Tim Davidson Peter Fenwicke Wallaby captain ***
6. Mitch Chapman Hugh Rose from 8
5. Dean Mumm
4. Will Caldwell Roger Davis
3. ****
2. Digby Beaumont
1. Jon White

Some alternative selections and position changes are in bold.

** Based on playing for the Tahs there in trials. Not the worst I ever saw.

*** The difference of open and blindside flanker was not so relevant in Fenwicke's day. The tackled ball law had just been changed and the convention that attacking players could have their hands in just after a ruck had formed had not yet been established by referees. Then they enforced no hands-in even for attacking scrummies. Instead dominant forwards pushed lose scrummages with the ball on the ground up the park until they heeled it back.

**** Couldn't find one. Hopefully Guy Millar, the Oz Schools THP in 2010, could find his name there on some future list
