Well its on its way, starting Jan 2012 and will played in Cape Town and Durban Poofball stadiums. The aim is to make the game quicker and matches will be shorter then the usual one. Bok, Kiwi & Aus stars has already been signed for this and watch the space as the news unfold. You heard it here first! From Paarl, detail to follow!

care to elaborate any further..

I also have to question your statement about Bok, Kiwi and Aussie stars already been signed, for starers you said the date is 2012 and secondly it will more then likely require permission from there governing provinces

Be interesting to see what this is all about, but in all seriousness, Paarl, I cannot imagine national unions, let alone S15 franchise managements wanting any of their players in this in the middle of pre-season training. In Aus, we'll struggle to have enough players to fill the rosters regularly. Don't need extra injury opportunities. Someone has 20/20 IPL type dollar signs in front of their eyes.

They are talking big money here and if it goes through it will mean no more SH players going north, they will get enough to keep them in SH rugby

OK my translation on the article
Cape Town and Durban supporters will be able to see the top 200 players from all corners in of the world in a three week tournament in January each year in the new built soccer stadiums. All the top Bok players as well as Richie McCaw, Daniel Carter, Phil Waugh and James O’Conner is already mentionrd to be link with this tournament.

Money mentioned if this one realize will be more then this players earning yearly from their current contracts.

Teams will be sold to local sponsors and the players will be sold like they do in the IPL cricket competition.

Rules wont differ from the usual rugby game, games will be only 40 minutes with a halftime break. They’ll timber a few rules to quicken the game up at the breaksown and scrums and a restriction in the kicking areas.

Eight teams will fight it out heading into a semi and final. All eight teams will be in action on the same day in the same venue on match day.

The TV rights havent been sold yet but there are a lot of interest in this one.

Unnecessary fluffy crap.

Injuries begging to happen in the little bit that's left of an off season.

Do home unions have the power to veto players doing this?

Yeah, god forbid seeing the world's best players competing in an exciting tournament and earning themselves enough money to stay in the Southern Hemisphere.

Im sorry but this sounds like another Kangaroos vs Wallabies type proposal. There are so many flaws in this proposal its not funny,

Firstly, yes unions do have the power to prevent a player from playing in such a tournament
Secondly, If they rules are going to be changed then that means the local unions or the IRB will not be able to authorise it
Thirdly, i find it very unlikely that a player like James O'Connor, Phil Waugh, Richie Mccaw or Dan Carter have signed $million contracts without letting a whisper of it slip

Its already been discussed at Saru at the highest level. Players will simply adjust their contrats or put a addition to their contracts to give them the green light to play in this tournament. Frikke , Rassies broer is the lawyer expert with this one, trust me he poach Mossie from the Lions due to kak contracting and know this stuff.

Those names mention probably players already have their contracts adjusted.

Like I state the rules wont change that much, maybe even less then the old ELVs and more we use in SA with the Varsity Cup.

Is this going to keep players in the SH? I doubt it, but let's see.
Sure it will, earning in three weeks more then a year? They'd be stupid if they let this one go if it mean they can still play for their province , country and dont need to go north. This tournament will atrack the top NH players aswell. Money talks it will be money driven and you know just aswell, that January is the perfect time to launch such a competition. Mind you Cape Town is always a good time to attrach supporters to a good game of rugby. Cant believe they dont name Loftus at this stage.

Sevens is far from the idea of 20/20 cricket.

I hope this never occurs, so the simpletons of the sporting world, don't come to these games yelling shit like "Score a fucking try you cu*t" similar to the 20/20 "No 6's in 2 overs, you fucking cu*ts." I've been to 20/20 games before, the last thing I want occuring is the simpleminded game like this.

How about you watch the full 80 minute game, but make the game with 13 or so substitutions per match. Penalties and Drop Goals reduced to 1 point. How the Northern Hemisphere would object.
