Any win by an Oz side on the high veldt is to be applauded. My thoughts:

  • Hangers should put his up-and-unders to bed with his dummy.
  • Beale was a surprise at 12, his direction of play and kicking game (apart from from a few up-and-unders) were excellent.
  • Tahu needs more space and had his best game for the Tahs, at 13, as some of us have been crying out for
  • Sheehan's Gregan-like attempts to hatch rugby balls were as successful as George's; it's not a very intelligent option to play a slow, plodding game against huge Boer forwards. Burgess's sense of urgency marks him as the best scrummie in Oz at the moment.
  • Carter really has hamstrung the Tah backs this year with his hogging habit.
  • What are Turner's and Horne's best positions when all backs are available?
  • The backing up was a major improvement; if only the team's handling could equally improve.
  • Neutral referees are imperative for all Super matches. Joubert's performance last week in the Bulls/Chiefs match was incompetent at best and cheating at worst. During this match Jonker found a Tahs infringement many times as they pressed the Cheetahs line, he got them out of the shit on too many occasions. I'm a ref and I'm very sensitive when reffing one of my own; I felt there were many times when Jonker was reffing only one side. Check the scrums in the first half when he spoke only to the Tahs front row. If I was marking him I'd be bloody severe.

Quite an enjoyable game. Thought the Tahs showed some enterprise, and it paid dividends with greater continuity allowing them to dominate the match.

Then with the Tahs' 2nd try, Phil Waugh shut up shop and they reverted to dumb up and unders, one out crash ball and then had to tackle themselves silly for the last 15 minutes as they handed the momentum to the Cheetahs. Didn't make sense given the poor defence of the Cheetahs.

No way. The best scrummie in Oz at the moment is Little Sanchez, followed by Valentine. Sanchez has been consistently good. His passing from both wings is excellent; long, crisp and in front of the man. Defence, more than adequate. Sniping around the rucks; well he bagged a couple in a losing performance. Burgess doesn't even rate a run-on with his own team. Discuss.

Little Sanchez?

According to Phil Kearns that's Genia's real first name. He spent most of the call trying to say that name as many times as possible and even got a Dirty Sanchez joke in there.

In any event Dr Ngo is right - he is (was) the form number 9. Apparently out for a couple of months though, which sucks for him.

It is all he has

  • Beale was a surprise at 12, his direction of play and kicking game (apart from from a few up-and-unders) were excellent.

It was as much have some and some who runs into gaps

  • Tahu needs more space and had his best game for the Tahs, at 13, as some of us have been crying out for

Ageed

  • Sheehan's Gregan-like attempts to hatch rugby balls were as successful as George's; it's not a very intelligent option to play a slow, plodding game against huge Boer forwards. Burgess's sense of urgency marks him as the best scrummie in Oz at the moment.

Sheehan needs to be back on the bench

  • Carter really has hamstrung the Tah backs this year with his hogging habit.

Yep

  • What are Turner's and Horne's best positions when all backs are available?

Wingers if Lote is wounded, Turner at fullback if Lote is available

So hopefully for the Shorks.......

9 Burgess
10 Hangers
11 Lote
12 Beale
13 Tahu
14 Horne
15 Turner

Really enjoyed this game, love the battle between Brussouw and Waugh. Lind you critizise the ref, dont you think Waugh went a bit over the top trying to stop Brussouw?

Beale at 12 I thought was a beauty. Think he played very well and his boot helped a lot. Also thought that usual 12 , Carter? I think they should have put on earlier to brake the Cheetah line.

The Cheetah try in the end was one of the best and why they havent used JW Jonker (not the ref the replacement midfielder) earlier.

From a neutral perspective (I also qouted it on TSF) is the time the Tahs spend clearing ball from rucks. Its painfull to watch them not cleaning them and the sole reason they dont finish off more moves. Feel like they enjoy to have control over the ball.

This weekend the big one for the Tahs, Shark Tenk it is.

Jonkers snide little cheats were so obvious that with a few beers down I actually thought he was that fluffybunny Kaplan!

As someone reminded me though, there's no way it could have been Kaplan. The Tahs won.

Blame it on Bakkies!. :lmao:

Come on Boet, Jonkers wasnt that bad, thought the Brutes supporters choke much more on their charge office coffees then your lot.

Was at Newlands and watch the game in the box. Having a bucket of droee wors and biltong with my own Charge Office Coffee watching that one. The Ox wagon drive from Paarl make me start here early to get there in time! :-\

Beale is a very gifted player with ball in hand. If he sorts out his defense, he could make the Wallaby 15 his own.

How many times does Tuqiri manage to bomb tries. I'd say in the order of 5-10%. I thought it was funny when the South African commentator said something like 'you won't see that very often'. I was thinking, 'f*cking hell, how often have I seen that!'.

I think Lotes skills manifest in finding new ways to bomb tries

The Beale/Tahu combo was first tried in the Brumbies trial, to good effect. The difference is that both Beale and Tahu like to play close to the ad line (unlike a Carter/Anyone combo - who play from deep and crash it up). Beale commits defenders and puts Tahu thru gaps; or Beale commits defenders and grubbers; or Beale hoodwinks defenders and goes himself. Works a treat.

I prefer good to neutral referees. Case in point James Leckie doing the Stormers/Chiefs game, or come to think of it, James Leckie doing any game.

They forgot to teach him to hold the ball with both hands, basic rugby skill and the first thing I teach my kids.
