Ed Zemancheff stepped down as chairman of the Waratahs rugby board of directors today.
Zemancheff was appointed to the position in 2009, and Waratahs Rugby was established as independent entity to administer professional rugby in NSW in June 2010.
In a statement, Waratahs Rugby said: "Having completed his objective of leading the new organisation through two full seasons, Zemancheff's decision to step down allows him to pursue his other non-executive directorships."
Zemancheff had previously held a non-executive director position with the New South Wales Rugby Union and was its chairman between 2008 and 2010. No decision has been made on his replacement.

Zemancheff headed up the review into the Waratahs' poor 2012 season, which was held with two games still to be played in the season.
The Waratahs finished the Super Rugby in 11th place with a record of four wins and 12 losses.

That was his objective? What about the performance of of the Tahs on the field and Tahs HQ?

Growden describes the Waratahs as being in "sudden disarray" at Ed's departure.

Couldn't find enough champagne glasses for everyone? No party pies in the fridge? Ed took all the spare staples when he left?

This is just GG blowing with the wind. For weeks he's been talking down the Tahs head office (deservedly so) as being in total disarray. Now he talks of sudden disarray as though he doesn't know what he has been writing about for weeks. He's trying to say he's surprised so that he can deny that his stories have had any impact on what has happened. Its the usual self-serving crap we have come to expect.

Truth is the disarray is not sudden and he's been writing about it for weeks. A couple more incidents of hari-kiri and a lot of that disarray will start to look like a brand new start, which everyone knows is what the Tahs badly need.

let's give some credit here: whatever we think of Scoop Growden, if this is the consequence of his latest mission then he deserves to be congratulated for forcing the tahs board into some changes. resuming normal transmission.

However right after Tahs get their head office in order I would like someone to move GG right along so he is never heard from again. Maybe it is because he recognises the shambles in his own work that he writes so fervently about it at the Tahs.

The Terror
The Waratahs cleanout begins with chairman Edwin Zemancheff resigning

THE Waratahs' horror season yielded it's first major casualty last night as chairman Edwin Zemancheff resigned with immediate effect, and more could well follow.
It can be revealed that coach Michael Foley is still considering a move to the Western Force after rejecting the troubled franchise last week, as they have redrafted their offer to a guaranteed four years instead of the previous three.
Waratahs CEO Jason Allen, who had the backing of Zemancheff, could also find his position under threat as influential players seek an overhaul at the embattled franchise.
Zemancheff has been a powerful operator since he took over as chairman of the Waratahs board of directors in 2009, and his persuasion has stretched far, so his departure is an enormous shake-up. Many critics have pointed to an overly political culture at the club in recent seasons, and Zemancheff's move was seen as pre-emptive with suggestions he would be asked to stand down anyway.

Tahs chairman abandons ship

THE Waratahs are in disarray following the sudden resignation of chairman Edwin Zemancheff.
Zemancheff's unexpected departure comes just a week after Waratahs team manager Chris Webb left the beleaguered organisation, following their worst Super Rugby season, losing their last eight games. After making the finals last year, the Waratahs slumped to 11th spot this season, registering only four wins from 16 games.
In a brief statement, Waratahs Rugby said Zemancheff had ''stepped down'' as chairman, and a replacement would be ''made in due course''. The statement said Zemancheff's decision ''allows him to pursue his other non-executive directorships''.
Zemancheff was appointed to the position in late 2009, six months before Waratahs Rugby was established as an independent entity to administer professional rugby in the state. Before that, Zemancheff, a one-time Waratahs team manager, had been heavily involved in NSW Rugby Union administration.
Zemancheff was a high-ranking NSWRU official when the province made the controversial decision to get rid of the highly popular and successful coach Ewen McKenzie for Chris Hickey in 2008.
Zemancheff's departure occurred several days after NSWRU officials called for an urgent meeting with him to get answers on many issues, including team funding and whether Waratahs coach Michael Foley was remaining at the province. Foley is being pursued by the Western Force, who have offered him a three-year deal to move to Perth.

So one paper sees it as a sort of positive move to solve a problem and the other as a disaster and guys running away.

That would be the second time that Foley has been relegated to support coach after not being up to the head coach job. Happened in Bath after Connolly came back in.

The Foley speculation has to stop, if the guy is talking to the force when he is on a three year contract with the Tahs he should be booted out the door. After the year the Tahs have had anything less than total commitment is a disaster.

Growden got his man, so so smug to claim it as a surprise.

Fucking what?

Are you suggesting that Gaffney's coaching of the backline wasn't the one shining light in a terrible season for the Tahs?

Anyone who is seriously suggesting Gaffney should get a promotion should be forced to re-watch that home game against the Brumbies this year, Clockwork Orange-style.
