Sydney Subbies 2025

This will make it very tough for Newport to finish above Drummoyne now and they will be relying on a big run home from there Colts to get them over the line. It could come down to a couple of bonus points to decide it!

The question must be for Drummoyne and Lindfield is do they start stacking there 2s now they are effectively out of the running in 1s. With 5 rounds to go both are still in the hunt for Finals especially a double point win this week for Lindfield. A lot of cc points could be picked up by prioritising 2s over 1s where I can’t see any of the bottom 3 winning again.

Or will everyone tell me this is against the sanctity of Div 1 and the Kentwell Cup?

Omg you go for a game of golf and all hell breaks loose. Just playing catch up. I’m the oracle!

Have been working the phones to get the explanation. Subbies sited a Newport player who said (foolishly) to the touch judge as he was walking from the field at halftime “geez this ref is a dick”. Touchie put it in his match report and player has 3 week ban, club gets -2 comp points & -44 CC deduction. Newports 42 point lead over Drummoyne is now a 2 point deficit.

The CC battle though I think is far from over with 4 rounds to go.
One player or two, given Seb Allen and Tim Anstey both rubbed out.

Beecroft socials reporting Knox Colts forfeited
The Lions tour, Uni holidays, snow etc really biting hard when the team that’s 11 from 12 with 11 bonus points can’t get on the field. Imagine if we were playing 18 rounds still…

Conspiracy corner…. What if Knox have chosen to forfeit Colts this week cause after there forfeit in 2s a couple of weeks ago leaves them needing to win a couple of games or risk being jumped by Hornsby….

The post above becomes more relevant when you also understand that several games don't have an appointed ref - this list is excluding 5th Grade or Halligan games:

2nd Division 4th Grade - Richardson Cup St Patrick's vs Briars Rugby
2nd Division 4th Grade - Richardson Cup Forest Rugby vs Petersham Rugby
2nd Division 4th Grade - Richardson Cup UNSW Rugby vs Waverley Rugby
^^^ You could make the argument that 4th Grade for Div 2 should also be "club to appoint" of course.
Women's 10's - Joy Johnson Cup Yellow Brothers Seniors vs UNSW Rugby
4th Division Colts - Radford Cup Balmain Rugby vs Macquarie Uni
4th Division Colts - Radford Cup Kings Rugby vs Wakehurst Rugby
4th Division Colts - Radford Cup Brothers Seniors vs Chatswood Rugby
5th Division 2nd Grade - Grose Cup Sydney Harlequins vs Renegades Rugby

A lot of refs are doing double- or even triple-duty right now, and they should be applauded.

At the same time, here is a list of schools games on tomorrow with appointed refs, taking away from adjudicating senior rugby on a Saturday.

When do the penalties kick in for the clubs that forfeit on the ladders? We could see some movement on the ladders once the point deductions are included.

I believe they're manually applied by Subbies based on past experience. Tend to wait until there are a bunch to do as I'm led to believe it is a pain in the arse.

So clubs that are faced with massive player unavailibility through injury or otherwise are to ignore player welfare concerns and force players to play 2-3 games on a Saturday? Sounds like we are a serious injury away from a legal nightmare.

Maybe a bit of an overreaction to what was answering a question.

A few points deducted from totals should not bother a club whose first priority is its players.

EDIT: I think we should seriously consider only counting 3 Grades + Colts toward CC points TBH.

I don’t think anyone is saying forfeits shouldn’t be allowed in that situation. That’s exactly what they are there for. But there still needs to be a punishment/deterrent.
Otherwise you’ll see clubs tactically forfeiting to avoid playing a “strong” club or a tough road trip. Imagine if over the last few years clubs went we aren’t going travel out to Newport or mountains cause we are likely to get beaten, let’s regroup and go again the following week. Newport miss a bunch of games leading into finals it’s a lot harder to keep that continuity going.

Im no barrister but the question becomes are we comfortable we have alignment between clubs, who as you say has its first priority as player welfare, squaring off against an administrative body, a body that imposes penalties on those same clubs should they act to protect those players by forfeiting.
