Any UNSW vs Hills witnesses? Looked like Hills scored a come back for the ages to pull off a last minute victory in Barraclough.

Shaping up as a cracking week in Round 1 for Div 1. Particularly interested to see how Lindfield fare and how Mosman bounce back after an unusually slow 2023.

Grand Final rematch at Boronia Park (edit: at Lapstone!) as well. Have Blue Mountains retained their all-star Kentwell team?

St Ives lost yesterday but we won the respect of teams in Jeffrey. The Saints stepped up against their more sizeable opponents and the young forwards held their own against a gigantic Blacktown scrum. Mr 200+ gamer Sam Bowerman kept going all day and Crusty Williams at the back of the scrum smashed them.

While we had a few years with a tough identity crisis it was great to see the blue, white and yellow hoops running around.

Like a lot of clubs it will likely be Feb/March before we will have an idea of numbers at LCOI. Intention at this stage is two grades and Colts.

Maccabi had an upset win over Sea Lice. It seems things are looking north. I gather things are coming together well and I assume Chad is leading the boys around good.

Sam Bowerman is not only a great clubman and leader but also an absolute gentleman.

Finally some good points from you Footy.

Huge game this weekend. I thought if Souths weren't fielding a 4's. Then maybe the Blueys boys would be back.
Bit colder on Saturday, I think mid teens for 1's on the weekend. Should be a cracker.

Cant see any weaknesses in all the Div 1 clubs this year. Looking forward to a great year!

A weekend of upsets? Div 2 first grade looking the goods and not a clear cut "Big 4"

Great win by Hills on the weekend, UNSW are traditionally slow starters to the season and will be in the finals mix come later in the year.

Petersham upsetting St Pats, from all accounts a lot of players had to double up through the grades for Shamies, at least they do it and don't forfeit.

Beecroft showing they no mugs or Newport not yet match-ready.

Briars 2s Vs. Epping 1ns, unsurprising that Epping got up in this farse. I did see Briars 1ns trialed and did not stack their 2s for this so great work from them on that.

Colts, there seems to be a decent gap between the teams, looking forward to see how UNSW stack up at Porters next weekend. HH colts unashamedly happy to admit they ran there first colts on the weekend to ensure a win.

Looking forward to Mountains Vs. HH this weekend.

Div 1 Kentwell Predictions

1. Hunters Hill are surely due? After a couple of bites at the cherry

Interesting comment around Petersham short on numbers as it doesnt appear to be supported by the team sheets? Is this pure
speculation?

I count 89 distinct entries in total, with 25 on the Colts sheet. So about 64 across 4 Grades. Love to have those numbers! :)

St Pats 87 persons total, with 20 on the Colts sheet.

Some interesting stats. How can you have 25 players on a Colts team sheet when you only have 8 reserves cards??
It can be done with front row replacement rules but not very often.

OR it's simply a case that they don't know how to use the app.

Talking of Colts - Very strong win by HH 2nd XV colts on the weekend. Bodes well for a good season for both squads across 1st and 2nd Div.

There is not as much as you may think. A few years ago we decided to branch out to the Northern Saints to try to appeal to a wider audience of players on the North Shore. Upon an honest review, the name change did very little to help with this, and if anything, numbers were possibly even lighter on. With this in mind, and a long long history of the club, it was a consistent feeling across the club to go back to our heritage, both senior and junior.

Did a quick review of Div 2 1st grade games to see how the old foes were faring. Overall - It seemed that teams were struggling a bit for fitness. The Easter break and wash out may not have done anyone any favours. Div 1 clubs might want to take note of that to ensure they arent off the pace this weekend.

Pats - Petersham - Game didnt stand out. St Pats forward pack from last year seems a distance memory. Petersham were very dominant at scrum time. Although the X-factors werent there from last year from both sides.

UNSW - Hills. UNSW out of the blocks fast, but faded badly towards the end of the game. Hills strength of speed and fitness showed at the end. How you let a player run 30 metres sideways and around a whole team takes me back to Under 10's. UNSW should still be there and there abouts come finals time.

Beecroft - Newport - @Heavyd You said white line fever hurt your team. I didnt realise Newport bombed 10 legitimate chances in the first half. Game could have been 60-14. Hopefully those 10 comeback into 1st grade for Beecroft.

Epping - Briars - Scoreline in 2's seems to indicate a close game? Especially if Briars ran a trial for their 1's. Could be a great option seeing the fitness concerns others showed in their first round matches. Looking forward to see these Shute Shield and 7's players in action this weekend.

I thought it was changed due to an attempt to merge with Brothers?
