Sydney Subbies 2024

What the actual fuck is this bs Subbies have conjured up… Epping not contesting first grade, fire them into the sun for all I care. At this point you may as well promote Sydney Harbour so they can run around in a decent comp instead of winning the Mickey Mouse cup every year.

Or it’s time to create divisions around teams and not clubs.
That's the independent school girl model. Games are graded well but match day experience is poor. It's very rare to have a large tranche of your school's teams playing in the same venue.

Pretty outrageous that Epping would not field a first grade. If you have the players to play second and third grade you should be playing at the top level of the division and sacrificing a lower grade. It honestly seems like capitulation.

Waking up this morning - I tried to look into the positives of this.

1. Did Subbies look at dropping Epping to a lower division and leaving a bye?. This way Clubs still get 50+ players getting a game every week with only 15 guys - What half way through the season - getting a rest to manage injuries.
2. HH 2nd Colts get a stronger competition to play in
3. Finishing at 3:15 might increase drink sales at Porters.

"The big 4"....what a wanker. You blokes should start a holiday park.
I think most people aren’t this arrogant. Everyone with a brain knows any team can show up on the day … I believe Newport last year lost to teams outside the “big 4” and only just made finals last year.

The big 4 Div 2 teams should merge into Div 1 with the other 4 merging into Div 3.
A 10 club Div 1 was proposed at the AGM and the clubs said no favouring the neat 14 round draw. Seems as though some Div 2 players/clubs won't be getting their 14 games though and will have a season riddled with byes (exactly what we wanted to avoid).

Is 1st Grade Div 2 still physically demanding week in and week out? Surely a few players would relish the opportunity to give the body a rest for a week at certain times throughout the season. This could be a blessing in disguise for the 'Big 4' to ensure they get the finals time in peak shape.
In Div 1 last year, the team sheets were different each week with players away or injured.

From memory Eppings first grade forward pack from 2023 were all over 30 for the best part, potential family commitments leading to players not returning
Either way very sad to hear

Interesting predictions!

Did Colleagues lose a lot of players this year? They won CC by the length of the Flemington straight last year from memory.

Also what's the mail on Drummoyne? Shaping up for a big year?

Big 4 was a reference to number of teams, not quality of them

The mighty briars will shock a lot. last week they signed 5 blokes from shute shield. including a tongan international 7s, plus 2-3 other high level 7s guys (aus 7s training squad) who have played shute shield in 2023. 1 of em even played shute shield last weekend (looking at the team sheet)

Are you allowed to move between Shute Shield and Div 2 1st Grade? I thought there needs to be clearance provided between years, let alone one week.

Although - If that standard is present, then Briars might be back to the glory days.
