Sydney Subbies 2022

Eastcoast

My recollection is that they were to be invited to the McLean Cup final to receive the medal. I assume some form of communication got through because your President was in attendance - was the player not available?

It is an unusual case this year because I believe every other medal winner was playing on GF day. Even the guys today with the Kentwell and ?Barbour? Medal are both scheduled to play Saturday (Colts guy said he will probably play 2nd Grade for Pats).
Ill back LC to win both the Kentwell medal as well as Man of the Match tomorrow. Good conditions, fast deck. They wont keep up

Do we know if the elite and privileged who attended this event had to pay or was it funded by my clubs subs and ludicrous insurance premiums of which subbies get a massive backhander on?

Unlikely that any of them paid to attend. I’d be reconsidering my affiliation fees if I was a lower divisions club.

I'm reasonably sure it wasn't "ludicrous insurance premiums of which subbies get a massive backhander".
No, it was more likely the affiliation fees paid for by the 40+ clubs in the association.
but it’s not like rugby to only consider the top end of town and forget about the little guys.
Probably a lot of people in the room patting themselves on the back for the amazing job they have done this year.

Did you know that out of the 24 clubs that fielded more than 2 grades this year (across Divisions 1, 2 & 4), only 6 of them were able to fulfill their divisional requirement as well as fulfill their game obligations (i.e. not forfeiting a game). Only 3 were in Division 1......

Where is the recognition of this?

Or will clubs not hear anything - outside of updates from their website - from Subbies-land?

Contact information for Subbies is available on their website if anyone has queries, grievances, or grudges.

Probably a more suitable communication method than a random rugby forum, yes?

Back to the action - Whales win 18-0 over Waverley at David Phillips tonight. The first try came a few phases after an excellent 50-22 resulted in an attacking lineout. Second try pure power with the maul. Add a couple of penalties and that's all she wrote.

Waves were OK but handling and discipline seemed to let them down at key moments from the parts I watched out of the corner of my eye.

Wow - there are some pelicans on this thread!

The Lurker is reliably informed that the lunch was essentially free - as part of the Waratahs sponsorship deal with Tattersals Club. The Lurker believes that all beverages were provided by Waratah sponsors.

the Lurker also understands that a wide cross section of clubs across divisions were invited.

the traditional lunch at Millner has been converted to an open bar - so all the little piggies from the lower divisions can get their fill!

No touching the precious subs - or affiliation fees. You blokes whining can relax - Subbies actually saved a shed load of money.

you can now resume your normal transmission!

oink Oink from the Lurker. xxx ooo

I just had a random thought: maybe it was clubs who had ever won Kentwell and still exist? Lane Cove won it in 1967 and 1968.

It is interesting to look at that list, and understand that of the 31 Kentwell winners:

8 are in First Division this year (Blue Mountains and Forest being the 2 without a Kentwell)
2 are in Second Division (Newport and UNSW)
2 are basically Third Division (Briars and Old Iggies)
3 are Fourth Div (Savers, St Ives, and Epping - tho you could make a case for them being closer to Third Div)
2 are in Sixth Div (Lane Cove effectively, and Balmain)

14 don't exist in effect, tho they may have evolved - someone with a better appreciation of the history might know more:

Bondi Life Savers
Bronte
Concord West
Coogee
Dundas Valley
Matraville
Moore Park
Newington Old Boys
North Steyne
NSW Fire Brigades
Roseville
Royal Aus Artillery
St Leo's
Western Suburbs

You will fit right in EastCoast. Maybe a little too well based on some of your posts….
