I like to watch

David Codey (61)
I'm surprised he wasn't called up into the SS side this year,he has been strong in the 3 or 4 games I have seen him play, and I rate him well above some of those that played SS week in week out.
Did he have a few injuries this year?pretty sure he came off the bench once or twice when I was watching.

Just the usual bumps and sprains - pretty injury free season. Ran on for a couple of Second Grade senior games off the bench.

Ben Butler was fantastic for Gordon as was half Alex Barker. rarely have I seen a winger beat fullbacks so easily with the old in and away or just shear speed. The back 3 of Yassmin, Kagiassis and Porter were great for Uni. The scrummaging of both sides was excellent and after watching Easts today I fear their scrum will struggle very badly against Uni.

Easts scraped home with a draw against Norths after overtime. First win ever seen after 50 minutes of neither team scoring. Yet Easts could not have such a bad day again - no conversions of 4 tries and no penalty goals. The scrummaging was poor and so many passes rushed in front of the tryline leading to tries bombed. Will have to lift against Uni but they can do it if composure held and the boys don't force passes especially pop passes by the tackled player when not supported. Easts : the game is unlimited tackles ; just start gain and be patient !!!

The Competition Rules say:
33.15.1 With the exception of Shute Shield and 1st Colts in the event of a draw at the conclusion of allotted time in any elimination, qualifying or preliminary final the team which occupied the higher position in the Competition table at the conclusion of the Minor Premiership Series shall be deemed to have won the match.

33.15.2 In Shute Shield and 1st Grade Colts if there is a draw at the conclusion of allotted time in any elimination, qualifying or preliminary final extra time shall be played consisting of two extra periods of ten minutes each. There shall be no interval between each extra time period. The teams shall play the first period of extra time in the opposite direction to that which they were playing at the end of the scheduled time. At the end of the first period of extra time the teams will again change playing ends. If the tie still remains then: the team which occupied the higher position in the Competition table at the conclusion of the Minor Premiership Series shall be deemed to have won the match.

Once again, the lawyers and administrators have taken over our sport, and they have neglected some of the more important and traditional aspects of the game. The rules need to be amended to prevent the debacle that happened in the Beasts vs Shoremen Colts 1 Final.

The Competition Rules must be amended thus: If the tie still remains then: both teams will nominate eight (8) players for a boat race, which will be run under International Drinking Union Rules. For the purposes of determining a winner for the finals series draw, the winner of the Boat Race will be declared the "winner" of the tied fixture. In the event that the initial Boat Race is also tied, after making any adjustments for spillage, a second boat race will be held. This time the teams will compromise the seven (7) finishing backs, and the competition fluid will be a 5 oz pony (imperial standard measure or 140 ml) of pink lemonade.

No injuries?

So that wasn't your young fella in the photo in post #654 who needed about 200 stitches to the melon?

It hurts just looking at that pic.

Norths scores a try, then ref called it a knock on! Very huge call, video replay will be interesting.
Both teams gave it their all till death.

Why were the Beasts scrums so poor? According to the team lists, the Shoremen dropped one of their usual starting Colts 1 props to Colts 3, and promoted a fellow who has been playing in Colts 2 all year to the 1's. The Beasties should have been all over the Shoremen at scrum time.

Team sheets not correct Sedgman played Colts 1's as per usual. Originally he was going to play 3 's to qualify for all colts sides in the finals. A ruling that states if all colts grades make the finals, they can be interchanged in all sides, if they have played a final game in the lower grade.

^^ It is the "open selection" provision that allows teams to "qualify" otherwise "ineligible" players in lower grades, provided all three Colts teams make it to (or remain in) Finals Contention.

Some teams could use this provision to "stack" lower graded teams, but it can bite them in the backside the following week, if not on the day in question.

Last weekend, Randwick, Gordon, Uni, and Norths all had the luxury of "open selection" across all 3 Colts grades. Team sheets submitted for the programmes often differ to the crew who actually run on. With the team lists being published on Wednesday, changes can be forced through sickness, return from injury, injury at Thursday Training, and Mind Games from Coaches.

It gets tricky when one of the teams in the "Open Selection" series of teams gets knocked out of finals, and a player may find themselves "stranded" in a lower grade.

PS. Good thing that Sedgemen didn't get called up to Aust A, or there may have been a "to do" about him playing Colts 3.:)

Not too sure about "whinging" about refs . . . but if anyone was at the Gordon/Uni game they would have to be astonished that Gordon had a 2-man overlap 10 metres out, but the ball was slapped down by the last Uni defender.

The ref gave the "intentional knock down" signal, and I was waiting for the Yellow Card and penalty try. Nope . . . just a penalty. This would have put Gordon a number of points ahead, with a full head of steam.

If this happened in a television match the commentators would be climbing out of their box. Oh well . . . . . :(

At the Easts- Norths colts game many scrum decisions perplexed both packs. At least the ref was consistently wrong about rule 20 and wheeling. No team lost the advantage.

But one thing repeatedly ignored in colts games and particularly exploited by Randwick and University throughout this season is that the refs don't enforce the "gate" rule and both of those teams repeatedly throw their large forwards into a ruck from outside the gate confident that the ref will ignore or miss this breach. When is the last time you saw this breach penalized ? Teams with big packs of "menboys" have an unfair advantage if this rule is not applied.

And that knocked down ball was going to be caught by Ben Butler and no one would have got near him in defence - very odd decision by the ref.

What are the semi finals for 3rd colts? There's been a bit of confusion. Is Gordon playing Randwick or Southern Districts?
