SRU Competition Rules Extract
2.2 3rd Grade Colts matches shall be played under the Australian Under 19 Law Variations.

Why?
There are plenty of players who were Under 19 as at 1 Jan 2015 playing in 2nd Colts and 1st Colts without needing any modified laws to protect them from injury.
There are plenty of players who are regular Colts 3 players that were over 19 years of age as at 1 Jan 2015 (in their second year of Colts Rugby and and it is assumed that they finished school as "18 turning 19" year olds as most do, then in their second year of Colts footy they must be "19 turning 20" year olds).
Players regularly get promoted from Colts 3 to Colts 2 and vice versa depending on form or injuries. It must get confusing for the players.
Many referees do not enforce the U19 Law variations (esp crotch binding). Some may not even know that Colts 3 are played under the Under 19 Law Variations.

The Corporation selectors may not share the same view as the NSW U20 Selectors, as there appears to have been a degree of Irish Promotion in his playing history this year.

Rugby Link shows he has played 1 game for Shute Shield (off the bench) vs Randwick (round 7) as well as the 3rd Grade game off the bench in the same round.
Round 8 and round 9, he started in 2nd grade, but appears to have been replaced at some stage by Chris Talakai (Brother of Sam, who signed with the Reds this year at THP, after playing NRC with one of the Qld teams).

He was then possibly injured (as per @Done That above) because there is a gap then he has played Colts 3 in rounds 15 (Hobbits), 16 (off the bench vs Gordon) and 17 (vs Rats), and off the bench in Colts 2 vs Rats.


@GPSRow, Is there any feedback about his impact in the Round 16 game against your club, or is that it in your post above?

@The Baz seems to think he would be rather dangerous in Colts 3rd grade, but I have seen some 120 -130kg boppers playing School 1st XV and various Colts games over the years and they have often been rather ineffectual both at scrum time and phase play, frequently unfit and slow around the park.

I can't recall the lad making too big an impact at National Schoolboys championships in 2013 or 2014, nor the Aust A games he played at Knox in 2013, but he seems to have caught the eye of Lee Grant at NSW U20 squad pre-season and Gen Blue games.

However as @The Baz says, rules are rules and unless dispensations have been granted by "The Competition Manager" granted, then The Corporation should lose their points.

Also get an amendment into the rules that current or former State or National U20 players are not eligible to play in Colts 3rd Grade.

We only found out about this during the week (reading the forum). There were other NSW schoolboys/1st XV players playing in that game too that we knew about. Was surprised about this player.

I have grown watching Eastwood and live a few blocks away from there sacred ground. Quite a few boys from my old school went to Gordon, so I joined the crusade. It seemed worth it sticking with him for the 2 years now considering how well they are doing. Good bunch of blokes too.

Very true. A lot of times we have to remind the referee. Other times, no one really worries about it still someone realises on either sides playing.

Completely understandable. Both sides have shown the immense depth that remains at their club. Hence the respective placings on the ladder. Jonah Taylor moved from Randwick to Gordon as it was closer to home and a few of his country mates played for the tartan too.

I'll also make mention of Stuart Mill from the Uni team. Top player, always underrated but makes a massive contribution with his workrate. I believe he has come back from injury and was in last year's 3rd Colts premiership team.

I am sure this rule applies to Australian School boys and Australian A s players only. The NSW Schoolboys and others that played at nationals are not included. They are worth 4 points each playing in a National Tournament, and 6 being an Aust representative whether Aust Schoolboys or Aust A's.

Some of the above names didn't play in the Nationals, but represented their association. Eg GPS ISA CCC etc

I think the young folk have Tinder and Facebook to record their own quirkiness and senses of humour, and I don't see much need to replicate that functionality here.

Tipped 5/5 last week and fairly close on most margins. Possibly Broken Clock Syndrome.

Round 18 tips
Northern Suburbs v Sydney University. The Shoremen have had the wood on the Corporation in the Minor Premiership games for the last 2 years, but this game is too close to the Finals for The Corporation to approach it with anything less than a knockout game intensity. A tough mid-week loss to the Beasties would not help the Shoremen's chances. The Corporation by 15+.

Randwick v Manly. MMM form has been all over the place like a kid in the Showbags Pavilion at the Easter Show after Nana has just given them their $50 birthday money. Randi-Wix will be too good and will send a message to The Corporation that they intend to repeat their 2014 Premiership as they roll the Marlins by > 30 points.

Gordon v The Bye. The Gay Gordons will be happy to take maximum points from this game, but would rather want to have a hit out to put the finishing touches on their Finals series combinations and preparations.

Parramatta v Eastern Suburbs. A ding dong battle is in prospect out at Merrylands RSL park and this would have to be the game of the round with a fair bit at stake for both parties. Both teams are in a purple patch of form and the MP2B have to win with a 4T BP to deny the Woodies a place in the Finals. They are capable of this. The Beasties sent a message that they mean business with their mid-week thrashing of the Shoremen and on the back of their 2 point victory over the MP2B in round 10 they will be confident of a repeat performance. I'm tipping that the Beasties tank may be empty after their mid week game and, with the home ground advantage, the MP2B will win by < 7 but not get a 4T BP. This will get the bureaucrats grabbing for the abacus to determine who gets the 6th slot for the Finals - Woodies or MP2B.

Southern Districts v West Harbour. The Hobbits have a very slim chance of making the Finals, provided the results of several other games favour them, not unlike what needed to happen for the Aussies to qualify for the "World Series" finals during the back to back Benson & Hedges World Series Cricket games at the WACA back in the mid 80's. Pirates have played some good footy this year, but seem to lack the ability to last the distance and will once again fall short as they lose by > 13 points.

Warringah v Eastwood. It is simple. Woodies need to win with a bonus point to have any hope of making the finals. Unfortunately for them if the MP2B beat the Beasties with a 4T bonus point then the Woodies season will be over. The Rats are coming home with a wet sail and seem to be a 50 points better team than they were earlier in the season. While I can't see them taking the chocolates, they could deny the Woodies the 4T BP, which would really suck if you were a Woodies fan. Woodies by 15 but no 4T BP.

Uni will flog Norths who are now a shadow of their former selves.
If Wicks turn turn up to play,they will record the biggest win of the year over the hapless Marlins.
Easts I think will edge out Parra in the toughest game of the round.
Souths will win by as much as they like against Wests.
Woodies by a big number over Rats.
