Super Rugby Rnd 6: Waratahs v Reds

Wallis likely to sub McReight pretty early on 2H, game load over the next couple of weeks will be a big focus.

I once turned out for Lane Cove subbies. Maybe we've played each other at some point.

I have taken the field against Covies 6 times to date:

2007 - Rounds 7 & 14
2008 - Rounds 6 & 13
2009 - Rounds 7 & 14

Those were the first three years of the Renegades as "Rouse Hill Renegades", and we won every game pretty handily according to the database. I think a couple of the Kiwi blokes were on a bit of cash. Not these days, and we've not won a game against them since about 2014? Back in 2019 we got hammered.

Ah I must have been playing for them in the glory years then.

What is interesting for me in a season where no hooper and tahs getting hammered week in week out that gamble can’t even get a bench spot which reflects tizzano being such a workhorse that gets full 80 minutes each week. With hooper coming back hard to see much of a future for gamble which is a pity as looked a player with potential but not seen much of him.

From the outside looking in I would pick Tizzano over Hooper and do my best to get rid of Hooper's contract to free up money for other positions.

Tizzano has been impressive this year, and the only Tah to look good each week.

Hooper's is a good contract for the Waratahs though because RA pays a significant amount of his annual remuneration.

One of the advantages the Tahs used to have which they no longer do is lots of players on central contracts. The Rebels and Brumbies have that benefit now and the Reds will gradually have more of it.

Obviously those players are getting paid a lot more to play for the Wallabies but it's not like Super Rugby only players get other opportunities to earn lots of money between July and December.

I hope they give him close to 40mins on the field can't wait to see this kid in action for the Reds.
He’s actually older than McReight, was in the same Churchie team as ASY (Angus Scott-Young) and Wright.

They had a pretty handy team over two years when you throw in the likes of Ponga , Sua , Hockings, Mason and Perese.

I wonder how the Waratah forwards feel about this article by Paul Cully in the Sydney Morning Herald? The forwards have still been getting enough ball to the backs. The fly half should be able to get the backs going . I don’t think Harrison does this enough and he’s been tried long enough. Time to look at other options and not blame the forwards. Edmed should be given a starting gig . Harrison on the bench. Let’s face it . They haven’t won a game....let’s see after tonight what Waratah management do going forward... Reds will be too strong tonight...

I hope the forward are reading it. They have been rubbish and going backwards in every game. Sure, Harrison is getting some ball. Very little of it is on the front foot though.

So the answer to the lack of guts in the piggies is to throw in a new 10?

That is ridiculous. Harrison is doing his bit but he doesn’t have the strength around him to support his usual play. He has been changing his play to accommodate the team but too many mistakes all round. Change him into a performing team and you’ll see him in full flight.

C'mon mate, its pretty obvious Harrison is the only player in the backline that looks up to super standard at present. Last time the Tahs played he made what, 3 line breaks that could have been scoring opportunities, but had absolutely no support around him?

I also recall in previous Tahs games, he regularly put players into holes which were then dropped dead.

Yeah , parachute Harrison into any of the Rebels, Reds or Brumbies and you wouldn’t be having the conversation.

The Tah’s pigs are getting owned .

He is not getting quality ball and regularly has too few forwards around him as ball running options because of the trouble they are having at the breakdown.

Surely the answer is somewhere in the middle. Harrison hasn't been getting much front-foot ball but I don't think he's shown a whole lot in terms of play-making, choosing the right passing options and setting up his outside men. Sure he's not a bad ball-runner, can kick and actually bends his back to tackle but you have to acknowledge he has been far from perfect.

I can imagine that any injury that stopped Harrison from kicking last week would also damage his confidence and perhaps his speed off the mark.
Sending out a 3/4 fit player is quite a gamble.
