Top Reds tacklers

McReight 21 (no misses)
Wilson 14 (3)
LSL (Lukhan Salakaia-Loto) 14 (1)
Blyth 13 (1)
Mafi 13 (0) in 40 mins of rugby.

Yes and then Stewart and JOC (James O'Connor) (and ASY (Angus Scott-Young)), all about the same. Tackling was good across the park with Fraser a stand out.

Reg, what do you expect from the locks in attack?

One person on here would have likened it to Hitler in footy boots.
I could be wrong but he appeared to be playing to a game plan; cut it out wide for the outside back to then look inside to Perese, trying to give him some space and less set defensive line. Like I’m sure Coleman would’ve instructed him to run the attack a certain way. He maybe showed a lack of maturity in sticking to that when different options presented themselves and I’m sure he will come away with a few regrets but he’s a good player who will get better with time.
Yes. I’m just glad Coleman is the coach and not ‘our man Derps’!

Two observations. First, the Tahs need to play at a faster tempo. They seemed obsessed with holding the ball in the scrums and rucks looking to milk penalties. They had enough ball and field position to win two games but everything they did was so slow. Secondly, Donaldson. He’s a talent. But twice in the second half he butchered great attacking positions with really poorly judged kicks. He needs to stop that or it will impair a really promising career.

Doesn’t that depend on the individual game plan? I don’t think there’s a blanket answer to that. I’m happy with their contribution last night.

Not keen on out of position wingers in test matches, at least not as starters. Positional play is way too important these days, particularly with the 50/22
He’s a winger turned centre so I don’t have a problem with it. He played wing when he came on for the Wallabies last year.

Sure, perhaps my expectations are redundant. Rugby game philosophy is constantly moving. Not that long back we expected the inner pod to be based on the locks + possibly the 8. And a second pod being the front row. The font row was likely to have weary legs after scrums, so the heavy lifting was expected from the locks. At the time there was much bemusement at someone like Rob Simmons for his supposed "hit and flop". If that thinking is still relevant, I'd be suggesting our locks haven't shown any great detail of whether or not there is a flop, because the stats are still hunting for the hits. (Number of runs.)

Certainly the likes of LSL (Lukhan Salakaia-Loto) and Uru (Itoje etc) are likely to play wider than that "traditional" pick'n'go up the guts of the rucks.

Do you have thoughts on how this structure is intended? Always willing to listen.

Issue I have with Perese at the moment is that he runs at players and not the space, yes he is has strength in contact and can bump players, but just because you can doesn’t mean you should.

He could be much more devastating then he is if he looked to run lines for space and only used the bump if required.

Additionally he looks to bump and then pass, which looks good and occasionally leads to a break but doesn’t allow for fluid backline move.
It's not like he was being played into space, though. He had to make his own.

Two games into the season with a new coach. Won one, lost one. Some would say should be on two wins.
Let’s see how they go after a few more games.
Let’s face it. They are already better than last year!

I thought it good game in conditions, though I suspect that Thorn will be pretty pissed at his team, they look to be struggling to have a plan at moment. The Tahs forwards I thought were dominant which was a bit of a surprise. Tahs backs seem to blow a few chamces with what I thought were dumb options, but when I thought about ot, they just seem fairly young, and have a bloody good base to build on.
So I imagine most Tahs supporters will be not to depressed today.
I think that Thorn would have issues with some of the play but is experienced enough to know that winning ugly is an important part to a teams success, it is the bond that holds a team together.

Lol. Reds fans crowing over their championship team escaping with a 4 point win against a team that couldn’t win a game last year.
4 points is worth getting excited about, we only needed to be three ahead to win Super AU last season so close wins do mean something to the reigning champions.

Says the one who was crowing over winning a trial game 2 weeks ago :p

I think we all know it’s just a trial.
But I also think we all know that Reds fans are still a little bit butthurt over it. So it’s still cause for celebration.
