I think the Oz mentality is that only the worst offences get red cards, yet you see that in NZ or SA they expect a red for lesser offences. While we expect a yellow much more quickly than NZ or SA. And hence you get alot of heated talk about us here in OZ bitching about ref's. It comes down the the use of cards. Most of this could be sorted with a clearer outline of what consistutes a card, you'll always have differences of opinion but less argument about consistency.
As a bit of an aside, you watch an open game, like the Bulls-Clan and then see the Brumbies-Reds and get frustrated at the same law interpretations. Nobody really fears a quick game against the Bulls whereas playing the Reds the opposition is planning to slow the ball at any opportunity. I think that the ref's should actually go through some analysis of the way the teams play rather than just there own performance and this should be with a ref's coach or SANZAR directive.
