Super Rugby refs inconsistent?

I think the Oz mentality is that only the worst offences get red cards, yet you see that in NZ or SA they expect a red for lesser offences. While we expect a yellow much more quickly than NZ or SA. And hence you get alot of heated talk about us here in OZ bitching about ref's. It comes down the the use of cards. Most of this could be sorted with a clearer outline of what consistutes a card, you'll always have differences of opinion but less argument about consistency.

As a bit of an aside, you watch an open game, like the Bulls-Clan and then see the Brumbies-Reds and get frustrated at the same law interpretations. Nobody really fears a quick game against the Bulls whereas playing the Reds the opposition is planning to slow the ball at any opportunity. I think that the ref's should actually go through some analysis of the way the teams play rather than just there own performance and this should be with a ref's coach or SANZAR directive.

I feel sorry for the 6 Nations fans this week that will get to see both Bryce Lawrence and Johnathan Kaplan...

Cooper was holding his jaw and getting treatment for it in back play for the rest of the game (not just milking after). I don't know what got televised but the punch definitely connected and hurt him. Crap

Coop's Hollywood impersonation was appalling: he was touched on his left cheek by Ma'afu but held his right side. Now, we all know he's not the brightest boy going around but get your sides right, Quade.

Or the impact on the left side of the mandible dislocated it (not in the 'popped' sense but in the uncomfortable, jaw rubbing sense) to the right.

It all hinges on whether he really was feeling it the rest of the game. Testimony from a Brumbies fan who was there seems compelling on that score, so I'm going to award in favour of the defendant.

This is vague medical advice but I believe (read: my dentist told me) it's very common for a jaw injury to affect both sides of the jaw because of the way it hinges. Although he was rubbing the opposite side he still may have been genuinely injured.

Basically, my argument with facts. You are the devil incarnate Lachie.

Injured or not, it was a clearly a punch yet no penalty. Where as the week before Ma'afu, same player, pushes someone gets a penalty to lose the game. Why can't someone show these incidents to the ref boss and ask for an explanation..

I will give you an explanation - the Kaplan decision was a shocker. We don't want future decisions to be consistently poor. There wasn't much in the Maafu / Cooper incident and Cooper struck him first. I thought it was sensible to do nothing about that incident. A YC for both of them would have been a waste.
