Super Rugby R4 2025: Waratahs v Force @ SFS, Saturday 8 March

Not great hey.

Won’t be that low but not an improvement on previous crowds which is a shame. Average weather (we can’t complain) but the Force don’t move the needle much for fans either.
That doesn't sound right. Seemed more like 8-9ish at the ground.

good to see the tahs sting in defense. backline looked way more cohesive than last week, with some fantastic trys out wide. forwards led the way again.

He's certainly playing a hell of a lot better, though that perhaps isn't so surprising - the chaos Tupou has been through the last couple of years is unlikely to be great for anyone's form.

That's no excuse for leaning on a ruck while one of the backs tries to hold off two opponents

Boy, that game was an odd one for me. As a Tahs supporter I was chuffed to get the win. I liked the game plan McKellar went for, the team executed and The Force struggled for a response. But on that front and with Aus rugby in mind, that really was rather poor from The Force. The discipline was really bad, creeping offside continuously, the handling, wayward passing was just poor and they looked so far from what they were building last week.

To the Tahs credit, they were doggard tonight with their tackling, with a number of near breaks stopped by a grabbed jersey or grasped leg. There were a couple of calls against them (the Tahs) that I thought went missing, but in the scheme of things I don't think they would have made any difference. I'll be interested to see how Cron and his team approach this and what response we see from the team next round.

As for the Tahs, I thought Creighton had a very composed game. Never looked rushed. Wish his kicking for conversions had been better, but thankfully it didn't come into it tonight. I thought O'Donnell looked really good tonight, at 22 there's still so much scope for growth. Walton had a solid game too, but Jorgensen was the exciting stand out across the backs. Bell is the player you wish you could clone, just so consistent and Gamble put in a big shift this game. I liked what I saw from big Grant too.

Hopefully Gordon is ok (though saw he said ok in post game interview). Gleeson wasn't looking great either. He's been one of the Tahs best to date.

Force played with courage and valiance securing 46% of possession despite a 19 to 5 penalty count. The Tahs discipline especially in the first half in all games this season is nothing short of miraculous. Their offerings to the rugby gods resulting in Zen like self control rarely seen by any sports team ever witnessed. It is truly an unreal performance to behold. Well done Tahs.

well played tahs. limited errors, good finishers better discipline. a pretty solid performance
I'm guessing Shiggins was watching on TV. Watching it live at the ground made my eyes bleed it was so bad. The Tahs were terrible. Their field kicking was diabolical, the lineout was a shambles, Leota had a shocker (I counted four simple mistakes that led to turnovers), penalty kicks for touch barely made 20 metres of gain on most occasions and the attack was totally disjointed all night. Their scramble defence was pretty good, but it needed to be far too often. There were three moments of rugby in 80 minutes - Jorgensen's non-try, Kellaway's try off an angled run and Lancaster's try. Most of the rest was unwatchable.

And the Tahs won by 24 points! That's how bad the Force was.

Some time this season one or both these teams are going to lose by 50+.

Tupou is soooooooooooooooooo lazy. FMD
Ive been willing to give the guy benefit of the doubt but in years pasted at the Reds, he would have put the foot down on that grubber he kicked and been on for a try. He put it through jogged slow and then walked..I get it you're a thp, no one else can do it.. but we know you can..

Was at the game [members - yawn] which looked close to full. Looking across and around it seemed pretty empty - would have guessed 8,000, so 11,000 is a result.

The second half was like watching paint dry. The Waratahs #10's place and from hand kicking pretty average, but his game management was efficient - #13 had some spark and go forward. Very dominant scrum from the Waratahs yielded numerous penalties.

That was the most functional the Tahs have been for many years

Good defense
Abrasive forwards
We even passed to ball all the way to a winger in space

Still stuff to work on but, just better

I even thought the centres were effective

Was at the match with Hawko. And he's right, it was painful to be there. All the good pieces the above posters noted were correct, but, the collapse in structure after 4/5 phases was excruciating to watch live. Most above haven't put enough weight on the diabolical performance the Force put in; sadly for them their promising start to this season came to a screeching halt last night. I mentioned to Hawko the Force somehow got on the wrong side of the ref when he caned them for every minor transgression in the second half. Anyways, we'll take the points, thank you.

The good:

Kellaway's performance was much improved on his poor outing last week. We all know Andrew's an intelligent footballer, and he played intelligently last night.
Jorgensen had a blinder. What a rugby player he is.
Bell is getting better and better.
Grant put in an effective workmanlike shift from the second row. A delightful contrast to Inches' games this year.
Gamble never stopped putting in.
Creighton did the simple stuff well with ball in hand.
The centres were outstanding in defence.

The bad:

The lineout.
Leota's had better games in the past, much better. Dunno what can be done about Rob ATM.
Tupou looks to be unfit while he's carrying an excess 15kg. His contribution outside scrums was woeful.
Creighton's goal-kicking was crap.
Gordon's box-kicking was crapper. Again.
The team's overall field kicking was crappest.
The team's attacking structure after 4/5 phases was unbefitting a professional rugby team. However, this is fixable on the training paddock.
