Not sure if this is the forum for this comment but. I don’t think any of the No8’s have shown consistent form or played enough for them to have the clear front running. Nearly all of them have shown some good form at some stage. I think it will come down to the style of play Dave Rennie is looking to play.

At his best Foley was a dynamic ball runner. Not sure that I see that attribute in Harrison? Lolesio for me.

Details Tragic? Can't say that I've seen too many errors. But, having said that, I am of the view that none of the 2019 U20s should be rushed into the Wallabies this year. Plenty of time to get them ready for RWC 2023 and/or Lions Tour.
Right up until last week, I've also held the view, and expressed it here, that Will Harrison plays a lot like Foley. But last weekend was an eye-opener as far as his ability to play close to the ad line and take on the defense was concerned. He seems to be developing quite nicely as the season progresses.

Harrison is like Foley in that he is a similar size and plays 10 for the Tahs. At this point Foley's running game is better than Harrison's, but Harrison is a way better kicker, both out of hand and off the tee, and defends in the front line and is a far stronger defender.

If they are the best player in the position they should be selected. One of the issues we have done in the past is picking players who could/will be better players in the future but at the time weren’t the best player in the position. Fardy was the perfect example of this, clearly still the best in his position but selected an up and comer instead.
If a young guy is currently the best player in his position it clearly shows he can handle it. Just about all the greats of any sport learnt their trade young, however they were also only selected when they were the best option.
Basically no more selections on potential but equally no need to cuddle a player that’s already the best in his position.

Regarding Isi, he's a quality player, he carries hard. But that is all. His body position going into contact is often poor, often leading to turnovers, or knock-ons from himself or his halfback trying to retrieve the ball. He can't jump in the lineout, he is a one trick pony... Except his meters per run is 6... Sure he runs the ball a lot but Wilson had more runs before COVID.
I think the biggest problem with Naisarani is he literally can only run the ball.

Actually, pre-Covid Naisarani and Wilson averaged similar carries and linebreak numbers.........
But Naisarani averaged more than double the amount of tackle busts than Wilson per game, and on average committed less than half the amount of turnovers and handling errors.
And they both had the same number of lineout wins.
Naisarani also made more tackles and had a higher tackle efficiency, and forced more turnovers/penalties.

Zero never mentioned Wilson.. He was spoke about areas that Naisarani needs to improve, and to be honest i'm not at all surprised that the stats of capped Wallaby are better then that of a Super Rugby rookie.
I do agree with Zero that Naisarani is poor at jumping in the lineout and his body height in contact is at times an issue, there were a number of times of the weekend that was evident.
If you want to dismiss that because he makes more tackle busts then Wilson, then fine, but it doesn't change the fact that Naisarani still has a lot of room to improve and is far from being the prototype player.
I look at all our No 8s and I see a lot of raw potential, but IMO none of them are clear favourites for the Wallabies position because they all have areas they need to improve on. However, if it were selected tmw I would go for Naisarani for experience.

Ok mate, but he spoke about areas where Naisarani can improve or needs work, which weren’t comparisons to Wilson. But now because our test no.8 has better stats than a rookie we aren’t allowed to critique those areas?
shit, I’ve been saying Naisarani lineout work has been poor for 18 months, that has nothing to do with Wilson’s emergence.

According to the fabled statistics.. Valetini is fairly average, especially in defence for missed tackles and ineffective tackles.
Genuine question, by what metric is Valetini better than Naisrani, Wilson, Swintin, Samu or Dempsey for the No 6 position?

I agree generally Qwerty - although I’d probably have Samu bracketed pretty close. My only caveat is that I don’t know our lineout is strong enough with those two.
