Cape Town - The Blue Bulls reportedly turned down an offer to play Saturday’s Currie Cup clash against the Golden Lions as a curtain-raiser for the Super Rugby final.

In return, the Lions were prepared to play their scheduled home Currie Cup game against the Blue Bulls on September 16 in Pretoria.

The Lions also attempted a similar negotiation with the Free State Rugby Union to move the under-19 game to Ellis Park, but that request was also turned down.

I'd just like to add something here.

If the Emirates Lions doubted that the whole country is behind them in Saturday’s big Vodacom Super Rugby final they should have been in Cape Town this week.

The normally parochial Cape media has given the Lions splash coverage through the build-up, with the crucial fourth test of the cricket series between England and the Proteas being relegated to bit news. On Friday morning the Lions were the front page lead in at least one of the mass circulation morning papers.

The country is going quite mad for this. Everyone is talking about it.

So... why should SA not get hosting rights for RWC 2023?

Sorry yellow for sure but can't see how this was red card...game over for an interesting final if was clear red could accept.

The guy jumped last minute and was not clear intent to take in the air ...read his head caused the fall in dangerous position...

Ah well the way to end what has been a really fuxked and uninteresting super rugby competition this year.

Very unfortunate turn for the game to take. Peyper had no option though. It was almost a carbon copy of the Jason Emery red card a couple of years back.
