2012 averages after round 8

4.Blues 24564
9.Saders 17501
10.Hlands 16063
14.Canes 12284
15.Chiefs 12013

NZ 12985

am I missing something or is there something wrong with that NZ average?
And isn't it a pity to see the current no.1 team perform so badly in terms of attendance

It's a bit hard to fill a stadium full of locals when they're all living over here ;)

You mean something other than the fact that it is statistically impossible, Tordah?

Yup, assuming the individual team averages are accurate, the overall average should be ~16,200 (Canes, Blues, Saders have only had 3 home games compared to Chiefs & Highlanders 4)

Anywhere we can find the end of season crowd figures?

It's a shame that anyone can easily find crowd figures on all top flight Australian Football and Rugby League matches, I know of two websites for each sport, yet the sport I love it is difficult to find all the crowd figures in one spot on the website and it's frustrating when its easily available on other sports.

Leave well enough alone, Crowd. We 'Tah supporters prefer not to be reminded of the crowd figures.

Yes I know of that website, it often has games listed without crowd figures.

2012 Currie Cup broke the records:
SA Rugby
The Absa Currie Cup season broke television broadcast records, the South African Rugby Union announced on Friday.
An average of 525 000 viewers watched the 33 matches in the competition – an increase of 36% on the 2011 season average – according to data produced by Repucom from DSTVi All4+ information.
The average was the first time it had breached the half a million barrier while Saturday’s final between The Sharks and DHL Western Province attracted the largest ever audience for an Absa Currie Cup match on SuperSport.
An average of 1,14m viewers tuned in to the coverage with a peak audience of 1,3m viewers. The 36% growth in average audience was against the backdrop of a 24% growth in the available audience.
“The semi-final and final numbers are on a par with the biggest matches in Vodacom Super Rugby,” said Jurie Roux, SARU CEO. “They confirm that the Absa Currie Cup has lost none of its appeal for rugby supporters.
“The return to a strength-versus-strength format intensified interest and the unpredictable nature of the games made for compelling viewing. That accounted for the increased average audiences, but the fact that the average audience for the semi-finals and finals was also up by more than 200 000 viewers in comparison to 2011 tells its own story.”
Repucom SA chairman, Kelvin Watt, added: "What makes these numbers even more remarkable is that they exclude SuperSport HD and Out of Home viewing which we believe accounts for between 30% and 45% for major matches such as finals."
Roux said SARU was monitoring the fact that stadium attendance had declined in 2012. He said that it was a trend being experienced by a number of live sporting events: “Whether it is a reflection of the general economic climate, the competition scheduling or of a wider phenomenon remains to be seen,” he said.

Got to say I think the Force have the best crowd. They only have a small ground but week after week and shit storm after shit storm, they get out in droves to support the Force. They have the least pea hearted fans in the comp in my book.

Yeah, you have to admire the loyalty. As a Tahs fan I wish we had more like them.

It's usually a great atmosphere at the game too. We've had a bit of a gripe over the last couple of years but we also appreciate the fact that top class rugby is being played over here (even if it is often by the opposition).

PB - shouldn't your signature be "Gold scarf of friendship"? or is it a wind up? - Just asking?

Yellow Scarf it is. Myself is one of the founder members and started posting here when Scrafie was still Doc Rugby like our own Danie Craven and he started the forum as The Yellow Scarf. Still surviving and loving my Aussie home. You should know I am not the wind up type Boet. Just telling it as it is.
