These ex-players are such vanilla shills. Never criticise anything.

LOL@Frizzle, "best Landers player this season" then first touch he goes down and limps off. Reminiscent of that other Hard Southern Man, Liam Squire who'd try to put the big hit on then come off 2nd best and be out injured for 3 months.

This could be the first match I7ve watched where I've thought "ok, the rolling maul has to go". It was a prorecssion of tedium. Ended up fast forwarding thru most of the match. Like watching the NFL extra kick, everyone knows exactly whats coming and theyre largely powerless to stop it.
RIP Warnie, never afraid to absolutely maul a cricketer's reputation whilst commentating. Rugby is all too polite.

Losing two forwards in the first half could be a problem for Clan in the final quarter.

Unless of course MP (Moana Pasifika) balance it out by playing 20 minutes a forward short & losing their captain...

Still problematic long-term, though:

Same old same old for MP (Moana Pasifika): too many penalties, wonky scrum & lineout, too many individual glory plays & not enough stringing together of phases. Clan would have to be happy with how well the new kid went & Fakatawa looks to be getting his confidence back.

Needs to be made defendable or deemed obstruction which is almost always is IMO.

Frizzell is going to be a big loss for the Clan, I know the in thing is to rubbish him, but he was playing the best I have ever seen this year, think ABs will miss him too, as he clearly best 6 , ie he has been the only one who has consistently carted it up in traffic and bent the line. Getting knee twisted like that is usually pretty bad.
I have to go along with wishing we could dump rolling mauls too, just let them tackle the man who is at front!

^ one of the ELV's that the group lead by Peter Thorburn came up with allowed for a player starting from an onside position to burrow through or "swim" around the outside of the maul & bring the ball-carrier to ground. Worked in NPC but got canned by WR (World Rugby).

Also need to reduce the number of lineout drives from technical penalties e.g. a scrum that splinters when a second shove occurs or collapses after the ball clears the locks feet should be play on unless it's actually dangerous or within 5m of the goal-line. There's no way a bad scrum 60+ metres from your line should cost you points - again, unless it's actually dangerous.

I don't like a lot of scrum penalties, as quite often they just because is better than the other. If a scrum comes up and is going backwards, is there really a need to penalise them? I tend to think usually it is because a couple of props are not equal in ability, and penalising because you are not as good as your opposite, and that could cause problems if it happens in other positions.

Can confirm weather is just about perfect. No cloud cover so could get a bit crisp towards the end but the track will be hard & fast.

I hate that "scrum penalties won" is a stat.
