Myself dont like Danie's name with the Flankers, should be with the locks. Still will be a surprise to see no Meisiekind or AD Jacobs.

Boks seem to have the most settled squad, not sure if that's good or bad. I can't see anyone who's been overlooked?

I really like our pool matches this year. Not a single easy one and the right way to go into the business end of the tournament.

There was and still is a lot of critics the way we went with our pickings of teams in the Tri Nations. Only those with injuries like Duanne Vermeulen (who will probably start in the next week) had their change to prove themself.

Muller ahead of Mostert kind of makes sense as Mostert doesn't jump at 5.

Rossouw is listed as lock and back row cover from wht I read elsewhere.

Louw makes sense. Ashley did not impress in the chances he was given. The Louw selection shows a bit of sanity - out and out openside cover - Ashley is a blindsinde / number 8.

Odwa Ndungane. Mmppphhh. Whatever.

All in all was expected.

I ask two things only: Schalk and Brussow to start together and Bismarck gets as many minutes as possible.

Thought Stegman got close but injured himself. Otherwise I am quite happy to see Flo's name there and thank fuck Snor & kie (maybe its Rassies influense) realizing the importance of fetcher type flankers. Schalk & Brussouw together , man that should be a feast.

Eighteen members of South Africa’s triumphant 2007 Rugby World Cup-winning squad were included in the 2011 party when the 30 players selected to attempt to retain the title were revealed in a live broadcast announcement on Tuesday.
John Smit will again lead the challenge, and he is supported by 11 other survivors of the victorious 2007 starting XV. Smit is one of six players who will be appearing at their third Rugby World Cup.
There are no uncapped players in the squad and all bar three have appeared in this season’s Tri-Nations tournament. The exceptions are looseforwards Schalk Burger and Francois Louw and lock Johann Muller who were ruled out by injury at various stages of the competition. Other 2007 winners, Juan Smith and BJ Botha, were ruled out of selection by injury along with preliminary squad members Andries Bekker and Duane Vermeulen.
“The squad has a backbone of proven title-winning ability and experience as well as a strong component of new stars,” said Springbok coach Peter de Villiers.
“Injury has denied us one or two players who could have been very important to us, but I am very happy with the squad we have picked. We have good coverage for every position and front line players who have shown over the past half dozen seasons that they know how to win big games.”
The squad is made up of nine players who appeared in Super Rugby for the Bulls this season; eight from the Sharks and seven from the Stormers – although a number of players are now moving on to overseas clubs. The squad includes four overseas-based players in the Ulster duo of Ruan Pienaar and Johann Muller and Racing Metro’s Frans Steyn. Louw has already moved to Bath in England, from the Stormers, but has yet to play a competition fixture for them.
The squad has a split of 16 forwards and 14 backs and boasts an average of 40 caps per player with ten of them having made more than a half century of Test appearances, while Pienaar is one short of a half century.
“This squad has the experience and ability to make a strong challenge for the title, but we know it will be very difficult,” said De Villiers. “It has been a tough season to date and we have had some challenges with the amount of rugby the players have had to play, but I’m very happy with the squad. We are on target with the off-field plans we set in place before the season started.”
The Springboks depart for New Zealand on September 1 with a public farewell from Sandton Square in Johannesburg. They play their first Rugby World Cup match against Wales on September 11 in Wellington, kick-off 20h30 (10h30 SA time).

Ashley did not impress in the chances he was given.
I thought he was your best on field in Sydney, should have played very near to 160 minutes on the away tour, rather than the approximately 80 he got.

on recent form, i would have picked johnson ahead of alberts. while he was busy, alberts didnt do too much to impress against the all backs last weekend.

Look I know Ashley quiet well being a x Paarl Gim boy and watch him since his U14 days. Terrific player and myself a bit surprise not to see his name. Willem Alberts is a different kind of player and we know he is the kind you want to see against the strong packs. Big strong defender and ball carrier. Ashley more in the Spies catagory and a good all round loose forward. Flo the surprise pick and Brussouw good work on the weekend probably gave him the nod. Deysel also a bit unlucky.

Alberts over Johnson during September in NZ traditionally wettest month. Kick to the corners with a big ugly forward pack I say.

Schalk about the possible 7 role.

Burger in Bok No 7 jersey?
Cape Town - Springbok loose forward Schalk Burger could possibly play in the Bok No 7 jersey at the World Cup in New Zealand.

With Heinrich Brüssow excelling as a fetcher in the Bok No 6 jumper, and Pierre Spies looking outstanding at eightman, Burger may have to fill Juan Smith's place by wearing the No 7 on his back during rugby's showpiece event.

Willem Alberts could then be used as a key impact player from the bench.

The tournament starts on September 9, with the Boks playing their first game against Wales on September 11 in Wellington.

Burger admitted to the Rapport newspaper that he is unsure of his place in the Springboks' starting line-up, but would be fine playing in the No 7 jersey.

"I am comfortable at seven and have played everywhere in the loose-trio, so I would not mind it at all," said Burger.

"You have to play where you are used.

The Stormers captain says the uncertainty about where he will play does not bother him and he's willing to slot in at any position the team would need him.

"It's probably not a bad thing about being unsure where you will play, but it really doesn't matter. I have my own style and enjoy my rugby.

"In the end it will depend on the balance of the team and which combination will be the best for that," said Burger.

Hasn't he always been a blindside (7 in SA), he plays like one. I've never seen him as some sort of an openside
