#SIRU2016 Grand Final Previews:
Congratulations to all teams who are present on Grand Final day this year. You have all earnt your places here and now is your opportunity to put all your hard work and effort onto the park one last time for this season! Hopefully you can bring home the biscuits in your respective match.
The BOM radar is not as clear as we would like and temps are predicted to max out at 12oC which is not a bad temperature for the day as long as the rain stays away. The pitch is in tip top condition for this match, a bit of rain on Friday will probably help the surface a bit but it's looking pretty sharp at the moment.
First Grade:
Waratahs v Wagga City, Conolly Park #1 @ 3:15pm, Referee: P Dean
Check out the GAGR front page for the First Grade preview, so good they named it twice...

Second Grade:
Griffith v Waratahs, Conolly Park #1 @ 12:45pm, Referee: S Donelan
There was no love lost between these two teams in Griffith in week one of the finals where Griffith got the better of Waratahs on their home turf. Waratahs have played some tough games in recent weeks whereas Griffith arguably got out of jail in their match against Wagga City thanks to a missed penalty late in the game. Will the path each team has taken be a bonus or a curse for each club?
Griffith are the kings of broken play running and will make any team who wants to play a loose game pay very dearly, they also have a plethora of ball running options at their disposal and when these runners are on song, they are hard to stop.
Waratahs are more likely to play to a structured game plan with definite goals in key parts of the field and will look to their experienced forward pack to lead the way. The Glamour Club tend to focus their game plan around starter plays from scrum and lineout which appears to be working well for them this season.
Keep an eye on: Ina Pulega and Alaparti Taifai (Griffith), Sam Priest and Pat Barrett (Waratahs)
Third Grade:
Waratahs v CSU, Conolly Park #1 @ 11:10am, Referee: M Ryan
A battle of the old heads here for sure and a match that will likely be a pretty tight game. Waratahs and CSU have traditionally been strong competitors in the Thirsty Thirds competition and although they probably wouldn’t admit it, they really like playing against each other…
I would expect CSU to use their nouse to get themselves around the park in this match, particularly with the “back to the future” pairing of Leon Larsen and Paul Hood through the middle. Waratahs will be keen to use their experienced backline to finish off strong forward movements. A key question for Waratahs this week is “Will Simon O ever work”?
Keep an eye on: Tom Finucane and Frank Coorey (Waratahs), Johnny Fekeila and Paul Hood (CSU)
Women’s Sevens:
Leeton v Wagga City, Conolly Park #1 @ 2:15pm, Referee: M Dwyer
There is no doubt that the Diana’s will go into this match as hot favourites, they have been undefeated for two seasons for a reason and deserve to head into this match as the top team of the competition.
Both these teams are able to throw the ball around and will want to show their wares in this department on the big stage. Neither team is particularly structured and that ties in well with their catch-pass game and ability to spread the ball to the fringes.
Substitutions become important in the Seven’s format in SIRU and Wagga City have been using Terri-Ann Cain as an impact player to great effect recently. The Diana’s have also been able to rotate some key players at key moments which tends to reap rewards for them.
Keep an eye on: Bulou Baravilala and Monique Higgins (Leeton), Lyndall Callaghan and Laura Hogan (Wagga City)
