SBW had another blinder today, one try and a few classy offloads. They played him at 13 and the extra space seems to agree with him.

He really looked the goods. His work rate was excellent. His problems at Toulon at 13 in defense were not an issue today.

He could be a great asset for the Blacks.

Is he making progress with regards to application at the breakdown? I mean, does he know wtf he's doing yet?

He's not bad when they're going forward.

I would never have thought I would be saying this, but if I was a current AB centre, I would be looking over my shoulder. You can hear that the commentators are taking him alot more seriously. I'd be surprised if he doesn't get a seat on the EOYT.

I think his seat was booked the moment the ink hit the dotted line. Maybe now with these performances he is justifying the selection.

I really wonder with his renowned offloading skills how long it would take before a counter is developed by the more astute teams and coaching staff.

Do they drop a defender out of the contact zone to be ready to nail the close in runner taking the offload?

While his strength into the tackle contest is not denied, there may be weaknesses in his reluctance to go to ground and set up the next phase that can be exploited.

The best way to negate his offloading skill is to put him on his arse. If he doesn't get over the A line then an offload is a 50 50 ball at best.
Of course, this is easier said than done.
You can't drop a defender out for ball runners unless you are confident that your 12 can stop him alone.

I was also surprised by his pace when he scored that fantastic individual try. He just burned them. The thinking seemed to be that, like Andy Farrell, he'd end up sort of a hybrid No 12/loose forward. I think he put that idea to bed yesterday. He'll be in the touring side for sure. The size of that All Black midfield is going to be something. Benson Stanley might get the hoof - maybe he should have made himself available for Australia where he was born.....

Robbie Fruen outside him looks the better prospect to me.

He has played TM cup and French 14. I am reserving my judgement on him until he playes Super Rugby or tours with the AB's.

that is fair enough. but you can't disregard the way in which he is physically dominating players, that are by and large the best club footballers in NZ.

He played this year and was serviceable rather than outstanding. Started for a big chunk of the season.

Certainly not, Don't get me wrong as I think he is going good. I just want too see how he goes when he is shut down and the pressure is on. He may well be another Spies. In saying that, playing outside Carter is only going to improve his prospects.

Knowing the Noo Zullunders, There would be a call for a royal commission of inquiry into any non-selection of SBW in the Darkness squad for the EOYT.

Apparently the squad is being announced tomorrow night after the last ITM match this round.

That Frewan block playing outside SBW is no slouch, and is worthy of keeping an eye on as well.
