I am pretty sure there was some work done with an afl kicking coach in the macqueen or jones era. Cooper would be one that could benefit greatly from an afl kicking coach.

Yeah QC (Quade Cooper) could benefit a lot from various specialist coaches ( and no I will not list his shortcomings), but is it a national or provincial responsability to provide this extra help, or does he own some of the responsibility to seek it outside if it is not provided to him at squad levels?

He seems to me to kick with the ball held too close to himself - kind of restricts the arc of the leg's movement.

Of course, AFL players usually get a lot more time and space when they execute a set-piece kick.

For all those still in cloud cookoo land about the feasibility of Link coaching Robbie Deans -

On top of it just making a fucked up coaching setup even more fucked up,

Ask yourself this - why on earth would Link do it?

It isn't going to get him any closer to the job - JO'N has already said it'll be the choice of his successor, and no-one knows who'll that will be.

If Link helps Deans and the team improves, then Robbie might even have a shot at the next RWC, to Link's cost

IF the team continues to underperform, then Link is now part of that losing setup and tarred with the same brush. New CEO sweeps them all out and at the very least Link doesn't get a grace period with which to fix the mess he is now part of

Ultimately it's just a media trick anyway. The only reason this is all being even discussed is as a measure of penance and appeasement for the masses - neither party actually wants it to happen but it gives you all a warm fuzzy "they're listening" feeling. Don't be sucked in!

Where to from here?.... JOC (James O'Connor) to 12. I thought he had a great Season. 3N and RWC was very physical and very dangerous (he's even crash balling with success). Barnes at 10 JOC (James O'Connor) at 12 would be very well balanced. Cooper 10, JOC (James O'Connor) 12 would be so lethal in attack. He's the future that's for sure!

(this discussion might already be in a thread somewhere, cant be stuffed searching for it)

Backline for 2 game tour

9 Genia
10 Barnes
11 Ioane
12 O'Connor
13 Horne
14 AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) (Turner)
15 Beale (AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper)) if hamstrung

Cooper, JOC (James O'Connor), Horne is a very lethal midfield and can be the new Larkham, Horan, Herbert/Little!

The other thing with league guys is you don't want them getting in the ear of some of our young players about how they would 'tear it up' in leagues ala Matty Johns with Quade in '07. Muggleton, Kiss and Blake developed into great rugby defence coaches through spending time in the game at lower levels where they learnt what worked and what didn't work. An AFL coach would be good, especially a good technical one (just don't go hiring a retired big name player as a lot of them were naturally brilliant and don't know how to pass on the requisite skills) - as a point of interest I believe the All Blacks (or NZRU) have an ex-AFL player in their coaching set-up.

I think Easts have an AFL bloke as their kicking coach. If it can work at Club level, then why not at representative or international?

Separate issue: Much is being made about the future and that our side (and the Welsh) is full of young folk which augers well for RWC 15. What about the Darkness where the junior Darklords have won the last 4 Under 20 RWC's?

We can not afford to simply rely on the fact that we have some young'uns in the Gold now. We need to keep our investment up in the future young'uns. This is something that we have done poorly in the past, and is rife with so much intrigue and political manoeuvering that they could teach the NSW Labor Party a thing or two.

Extract from Article on RWC 11 Ltd Boss Martin Sneddon
....
Win, lose or draw, Snedden planned to party until dawn tomorrow morning at the SkyCity Grand Hotel at a post-final event with several hundred staff from RWC 2011.

And regardless of how many beers were downed, Snedden would have his own World Cup hangover to deal with.

"I got addicted to watching live rugby," he said. "I have been to 24 matches and watched every minute that I could on TV.

"That's going to be hard to deal with. There will be a hangover period, but at least we can be satisfied with a good tournament."

What about us poor sods who have done exactly the same, AND we haven't been paid to watch the games as part of our job.

Later on in the article he says
After living in New Zealand his entire life, he said he would happily move to Australia or England to take up a new job - preferably remaining in cricket or rugby circles.

Probably should post this in the "Goodbye JO'N thread". We have a kiwi coach, why not have a kiwi CEO as well? At least then both NSW and QLD unions would be united for once in their perennial whinge that "We was shafted" over senior appointments in ARU.

Is that a squadron of piglets circling the opera house? The day the QRU and NSWRU are united will be the day rugby becomes the most popular sport in Australia :)

We desperately need an independent commission...

To quote Sandpit Fan "Is that a squadron of piglets circling the opera house?". We can't agree on a railway gauge, daylight savings, education curriculums, stamp duty, driver licensing, business registration ...... FFS we even had to build a hot air factory in the Monaro cause Sydney and Melbourne wouldn't agree on who should own the Hot Air Factory.

There is no way would we agree on who the independent commissioner should be. Clearly that great Australian General Peter Cosgrove, although.... he went to a CAS school, has never played for the Wallabies, and so it goes on.....

Why do do two Australians bet on two flys on the wall? We never agree on anything!

My memory is not the greatest but I think that I wrote to the effect, when the extension of Deans' contract was being mentioned (the first time), that Link should be appointed assistant coach of the Wallabies for the 2012 EOYT. Then, Link should take over after the 2013 Lions tour just as Jones succeeded Macqueen when they were in Oz last.

I still think that idea has currency.

Subcontract it to Cricket Australia to figure it for them.

We could do a lot worse than get a french scrum coach. Its always been a weakness so are we really the best able to coach it?

Incredible. Thanks for posting that. So.... do we have anything even close to this and why the hell not?
