Shute Shield 2024

Easts just need to make the finals which it looks like they will going on early season form. From that point they are likely to pick up 5-6 of them and then they are a problem.

If Lancaster doesn't end up in the Wallabies squad he's a huge chance for the Olympics still surely.

A couple may end up with gigs elsewhere which take them off their books.

I agree with Harry about staying in it for 30 mins. When you have guys who are FT footy players even if its academy level they just have the capacity to go for longer.

As expected, although scoreline looks much better than how close the game really was. Easts never looked like losing. Super capped loose head, super capped hooker, 6 current waratahs and add in some england 7s. Easts have no reason not to decimate all thats stands in front of them.

Parra will be the better for it, plenty of mistakes and drop balls and they gave it a red hot go and i think they will take a lot of way that they arent too far away from being decent this year.

Manly looking solid too.

Wow. Manly totally dismantled today.
Rats won,
We did have 2 new wingers, and lost our 12 and skip early -that's half a backline. Best team on on the day won.
Noting best club won 6 of the 8 games played and put on an awesome day - both clubs made yesterday happen

Great day and solid game but geez Manly would it hurt to have a few more beer tents. 35 minute queues for warm beer and two portaloos. Club could have made another 10k.
Also shame the game has received no coverage, the derby is the best rivalry in the comp and gets the best crowds but nothing in the news.

Congrats to Manly for the ANZAC idea and may it be a regular.

interesting last yr Heaven got the call up to be a traveling reserve in nz the same week easts happened to play the wicks & this yr suddenly T Wilson is now in the 7's squad
So what do you expect these players to do? Pass up the opportunity to play at the next level? You'd argue that on form in 2024 that Heaven was the right choice last year. Do you think Wilson should forego Australian selection so he doesnt miss a SS game against Wicks????? Give me a break with the conspiracy theories..... You do both players an injustice

Anyone know what's going on with uni's lower grades? Completely fallen away the last few weeks.
Long story short … firstly, high player turnover following 1sts not making final for the first time in years last year and 2nds winning the comp. Secondly, the 2nd grade team from the trial vs Easts has 10 players missing to either injury or Junior Wallabies. Basically, a lot of lower graders currently playing up a grade from usual (and scrum and lineout unusually poor across the grades at present which is terminal for any club).

Good news is some extraordinary talent coming through. Yesterday, 18 year old Eamon Doyle played the 2nd half at lock in first grade and was outstanding. The replenishment of talent might take a few years but they have some good’uns.

The students will bounce back quickly. They can make a prelim this year.

Sorry dad he wasnt that outstanding but good luck to the lad with his future, a number of teams have players out at the moment, the worrying sign for uni was losing 6 out of 7 games yesterday following their results a week earlier vs Randwick
