Anyway getting back to the SS. I would like to make an observation. I think too many SS coaches take it all way too seriously. They are often ambitious and looking to make a career from professional coaching. Good luck to them. But SS players are basically amateurs. Sure some get paid some money but it's not a lot. Even to describe them as semi professional is a stretch. So they have jobs or they study or they do both. 90% of them realise they're not going to be Wallabies or Waratahs. They play because they love it.

So do they really need to start training in October two and three times a week?

Btw that's a lot of training two and three times from October to April before you get your first match payment. You're on about 40 cents an hour!!!

That's if you get in 1st Grade. You could do all the same training and be in 2nds or 3rds. That's 0 cents an hour.

OR....maybe training could start in January for Club Rugby players.

any truth to the rumour that at the Manly AGM the other night it was revealed they currently have less than $5000 in the bank?

@DaveBeat they might need to hit you up for more of your hard earned..........

I was there.
Never said.
And a profit
Not the case nor do the financials say that.
People love twisting things and creating stories without clarification.

Great reference though - when Dave Begg came in;
  • We where $200k in the red, over the 5 year stint we are now up $70k.
  • Last year 2015 expenditure was up, and with;
  • $50k went to the Rays over 2 years (ARU idea, and comp), 2015 had a loss. I'd like to see the ARU ensure Premier Rugby grows, when grass (roots) isn't growing or parts dying off the food chain is impacted.
  • First grade have an 80% win loss ratio over this time.

I'm not into excuses, last year allot of small things impacted.
1. J Train Gym and training got shifted and didn't open until start of season, our preseason was not of years past.
2. Injuries we had our fair share through all grades this year (can impact any club), in 2015 we had the same back line nearly all season. 2 Injuries where key personal that brought intensity and chatter.
3. Not shutting out wins (2 of them against the premiers) - was it fitness, or was it that chatter that plays mind games with the opposition.
4. Coaches, we had 3 very good coaches - each of them probably good enough to have the head coach role. They brought different strengths though and some times this causes confusion.
5. Seven's last 5 years the 4 (CH, LM, Hunter, & Kiama) played a significant part of the Pres Season, skill, intensity, bonding, off the back of last years NRC - no JTrain, and no 7's may also of had an impact.
6. Then the off field impacts like the car park, whilst that has no impact on the playing group or training it does distract the boards focus away from rugby.

With one of the 3 really good coaches retained, three really simple tweaks;
1 With JTrain open - preseason like previous years.
2 Sevens circuit in the preseason.
3 Be the best community club.

Martin Naufahu got called up for Tonga from the Dewar Shield for the World Cup Training Squad and for the Pacific Nations Cup in June.

Not saying it isn't a fantastic individual achievement, but viewing it as an achievement for the league, maybe not so much.
I hope he gets game time.

Did you read the story, it was more about coming back from a horrific injury.

I was there, i think the game was stopped for about 2 hours.

A day night rugby game.

Yeah these PI nations take risks in their selections because if the blokes thrive they've got them locked up.

Doesn't always work out that way - see Isa Nacewa.

There seems to be with certain members an obsession with the Manly Club. There are 12 clubs so lets spread out boys

If someone wants to be passionate about their club, then they should jump in boots and all. Club passion/tribalism is to be encouraged.

If there are not enough posts about "your" club, then you know what to do about it. Make it happen.

Gaggerlander's shouldn't be silenced just because they are proud of their club, and keen to share the achievements and successes of that club.

Get stuck in folks. 'Tis a very broad church that we belong to.

Downgrade your own competition if you like. I happen to be proud of the one that I'm involved with.

Pre season training kicked off tonight for grade and colts,
Followed by speeches from the new GM, President and first grade coach on the up coming season, topped off with a BBQ ( with big Wazza2013 manning the tongs)

Can't wait for round 1 ,Bring on 2017.

Fair call.
Obsession is a strong word.

As HughJarse said.

How our Souths looking for next year they have always been consistent?
They have always managed the colts coming through really well.

Plus it was a good rugby story that made the papers, shit a week or 2 back on a day of a Bledisloe Rugby game - rugby didn't make the paper.

Someone over at The Roar is claiming the Shute Club Presidents have voted to extend the season as a means to directly compete with NRC. This is bullshit, right?
