So it's official then.. Shute Shield Grand Final will overlap with RD 1 of the NRC, SRU President David Begg said the NRC can work itself around this draw...

Self interests once again is damaging Australian Rugby, well done David, I won't be watching Shute Shield at all in 2017 due to this shit.

QPR in QLD has managed to start their season 2 weeks earlier then the Shute Shield and won feature any overlap with the NRC.

There's a provable example of how to fix the overlap issue 950km up the road.

Yes, and QPR isn't without its logistical challenges either, QRU has approved Logan's promotion into Premier Grade in 2017, but for 2016 they will only have teams in every other grade bar Premier Grade, which means the Premier Grade teams have a bye when the rest of the grades are playing Logan, and then a second bye due to having 9 teams in the comp.

There's solutions out there, Begg has just chosen not to exercise them.

No, it's Rugby Unions loss, it's the NRC's loss, it's the players, coaches and fans loss..

I feel sorry for the players and coaches who used the NRC to push their claims for higher selection honours..

I actually think it will be Shute Shield's loss. Contracted and NSW development players will choose NRC over the Shute Shield GF and maybe some of the finals. It will be very interesting scenario for a player who has a paid contract with both NSW and their Shute Shield club.
Training during the weeks of the finals will be impacted as sessions clash. The impact will be very significant if we see 2 teams qualify for the GF who feed into the same NRC team eg Norths v Manly or Uni v Randwick.

Yep, any players with an ARU contract won't be involved in the Shute Shield GF...........

This decision is going to backfire, and I say fuck' em.

What makes you think Waratah players won't be available. Try tell the clubs that and I reckon the Waratahs will support the clubs over the ARU.

Also as a matter of interest the clubs actually have stakes in each of these franchises so they'll be able to do whatever they like.

Why will they choose NRC over Shute Shield?

What's stopping the NRC scheduling a Monday game between two NSW sides or a Sunday game.

Two games in two days players might do it if the NRC means so much as you explained. Saying that coaches two seasons ago didn't pick players involved in long club seasons for the first few rounds whilst they recovered.

Sorry if I upset NRC fans, but as far as I'm concerned the SS which runs for 18 rounds plus playoff series and involves 12 clubs with 4 grade and 3 colts teams each is more important to Australian Rugby than the mickey mouse NRC competition. The NRC should start later to avoid a clash with the SS, especially since the draw for the NRC hasn't been released yet.
Just my opinion, which I'm entitled to

Because they're contracted to the ARU, and I'm sure they, backed up by the Wallaby, Super Rugby and NRC coaches will want their best players available for round one..........

The only reason there is an overlap is because Pulver invited a Fijian side to play NRC so he can get more Fijians into the Wallabies

Actually this whole issue is just another example of the questionable administration of rugby in Oz. The SS draw has been available as a draft since mid December and the only thing that's changed is the date of the bye weekend so if the NRC, ARU or NSWRU had any issues with it why haven't we heard from any of them?
