The fact that so many Schoolboy rock stars get caught up to and bypassed in Colts and Grade systems suggests that the bit of the pathway entrusted to the care of Schools/Village Clubs needs some attention.

Many Shute Shield Clubs have significant numbers of players who played for non-local junior Village Clubs, or attended schools outside of that Clubs "catchment" area.

In anticipation of the howls of innocence from the usual suspects that the club they are affiliated with doesn't import like the Beasts, Wix or The Corporation does, just take a honest look at your roster.

Importing, Poaching, Recruiting, or Paying players is a Boolean scenario. Either the Club does it or it doesn't.

Innocence is lost the first time it happens, although some clubs have built substantially larger glasshouses than others.

People move addresses all the time for a variety of reasons. What right has a Club to demand that a player can only play for them until the end of time, on the basis that it was convenient for that family to have a child play for a junior village club in that district for a few years.

Clubs investing time and resources in their Junior Rep program? How much? Most of this investment comes from Volunteers within the Junior Clubs. Many junior district rep superstars end up going nowhere, giving up the game either before Colts or early into their Colts career. Some would say this happens because Daddy or Mummy are no longer able to influence their selection into the top team, or it may be because the player finally realises that they do not have to do exactly what Mum and Dad insist they do.

The reality of life beckons all players at Colts and Grade level. Study and work commitments are but two of the myriad of competing influences a young player has to contend with. Gone are the days of innocence where school and sport can consume the waking hours.
Hopefully mum and dad have done a good job in helping to develop the decision making skills of their children so that full time v part time rugby can be realistically evaluated.

What is Alofa Alofa's story just decided to have a run with Randwick with the aim of getting a contract? The Rebels have him on some kind of short term deal?

Although we are at home, I am still very concerned about the Pirates giving us a run for our money.
I honestly think we'll go close to winning the SS this year, but a desperate and dangerous West Harbour could be a nightmare tomorrow.
Up the Wicks!

Expect in the case of - adopting HJ's parlance - the corporation, who having clawed their way back to respectability in terms of GAGR sentiment over the past 12 months as not so much most disliked club, have produced sweet Fanny Adams ;)

Abraham Lincoln once coined the following quote - you might give it some consideration

" Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt"

AB had his hands full with his own battles when we kicked off in 1863. Otherwise he would, ably have found a place on our left wing.

Now back to the footy .

I agree with most of your post, Coach, about last weekend's game against Uni . The first half definitely set up the win . If we breakdown the first half , there seemed to be 3 important periods of play . The first 10 minutes where Randwick scored heavily , establishing a match defining early lead , a middle 20 minutes where I thought play was fairly even and the last 10 when Uni, quite rightly lost a man to the bin.
It highlights just how important it is to take the field with the right mindset. It's not the first game this season where Uni have been sluggish early - very similar to match against SD. Also it shows how costly ill-discipline will be to teams in this tight table - just can't afford to play with 14 .
Really liked the first try though. Clever thinking from Kellaway with a quick throw in , to Deegan(?), to the lock (?) whose exquisite handling setup the phase play which allowed the try .
Good luck today , hopefully no injures and we will see if Uni can do better IF there is another clash this year .
