Missing; Hanigan, Short, N.Kellaway, Munroe (off very early). All these would have made significant difference to the Wicks today and will in the future rounds.

Woods had 2 yellow cards, overlapping, at the end of the first half - pretty tough to come back from that in a tight game.

2016 Gregor George Cup (Club Championship) Watch:
(after Round 5)

There are a maximum of 215 points available to a club each week, based on all 7 club teams winning with a 4 try BP and the target to win is >3000 points which was achieved by 3 clubs in 2014 and the 2015 winner was on 2905 points. In 2014 the difference between 1st and 2nd was only 33 points, with 3rd only 52 points further back. In 2015 there was only 49 points between 1st and 2nd, with 3rd place 113 points further back.

Randwick, 879 points (up 1)
Sydney University, 867 points (down 1)
Eastern Suburbs, 790 points (up 1)
Eastwood, 697 points (down 1)
Manly, 691 points (up 1)
Southern Districts, 596 points (down 1)
Warringah, 581 points
Northern Suburbs, 548 points (up 1)
Gordon, 524 points (down 1)
West Harbour, 349 points
Parramatta, 247 points
Penrith, 31 points

How the Club Championship table is calculated.
The competition points from the individual competitions are multiplied by the following factors and then added together.
First Grade - 15
Second Grade - 8
Third Grade - 5
Fourth Grade - 4
Colts 1 - 6
Colts 2 - 3
Colts 3 - 2

The 49 point difference between Gold and Silver in 2015 could have been made up from an extra 3 BP in Shute Shield and an extra BP in 4th Grade, or an extra victory with a BP in 2nd Grade and an extra BP in Colts 1 and Colts 2.

Didn't see the game, unfortunately. But unless the ref makes a mistake, a yellow card usually means the offending side was under pressure.
Definitely a cynical yellow to the first player, and definitely a lucky yellow to the second if you know what I mean. The saying I think is they can't run without heads.
Other than that, a very tough fast game. The ladies definitely enjoyed the day

Agree - was disappointed that Eastwood were a tad thuggish - in past years they have played tough hard yet fair - perhaps the current team aren't good enough so have to resort to that rubbish

I hope it was because of flawed techniques, or lack of fitness, rather than any plan.

We have never been a dirty team, even back in the good old, bad old, days, when the sole referee definitely did not have eyes in the back of his head, if you get my meaning.

@Macca, what "rubbish" are you talking about?

The cards were nothing to do with dirty or thuggish play. One was for a marginal above the shoulders tackle - one arm brushed the neck and the other around the chest. No malice, just slipped up a bit when the tackles player ducked. A number of other tackles on both sides in the game could have drawn the same result, IMHO.

The second was for tackler not rolling away. Again, marginal and subjective, as these calls usually are. Can't remember if it was the last in a line of several (a 'team yellow') or if it was because the opposition were in a try scoring position and therefore judged as cynical play.

I don't know where the idea of thuggish play is coming from? I certainly didn't see it. @Macca, were you at the game - care to expand at all?

The second was actually the first. Said player snuffed out any chance from a break rather cynically, saved a certain 7 and deservedly got yellow.
The second, as you say was marginal. I say please don't draw me a margin ever. The player didn't duck. The tackler didn't miss. It was savage. The player in question asks for no favours and I suspect, expects none in return. He was lucky. Yes, a lot of tackles finished high. IMHO didn't think it (the game) was thuggish.
I can say though, that all that participated in the game knew they had played. Maybe except for Munro and Deegan who were both replaced due to head injuries. I reckon that Deegs will not see out of that eye until mid week. I don't know how that happened though with no insinuating either.

...... The team sheets from the have recorded Luke Hilmes as playing No 8 for the Card-a-thon match out at Death Valley. Is there an Injury/unavailability crisis at Rat Park ?
It's more an acknowledgement of the good form of the 2 Kelly.
Holmes would improve the back row of most SS teams.
In fact he won them the game yesterday, blocking a grubber kick & running 50-60 against the run of play.
Amazingly, living without last years back row is far from the major issue down there.

Luke Holmes played most of his junior rugby as a breakaway and moved to hooker as he got older (in junior terms), but often played both in his junior days.

Knows his way around a rugby field.

Thought the Marlins easily had Randwick's measure. Wicks might be in for a long season - Marlins resuming last years top form.

Geez MACCA, might have gone the earlier crow there hey mate?
Wicks looking pretty good, and were able to do something the Marlins couldn't in a big game- knock off the Woods!
Loving the Shute Shield this year, was stoked to see the Pirates knock off Sydney Uni AKA Buildcorp AKA the students AKA The Corporation on the weekend too.
