The definitive game of two halves at Rat Park today. It was almost as if the teams had swapped jumpers at half time. As predicted the Rats came out full of running after half time and put on two quick tries. From there on the crowd lifted the home team and they surged home to win 29-24. Full marks to Warringah, no excuses should be offered for the Manly defeat.

The 20 minutes after half time was probably the worst I've seen a Manly team play in a good many years. Just as happened last week against Norths we put on early points and then seemed to go to sleep. We got away with it against Norths, but Warringah are a different proposition. Very disappointing performance and on the last few games we're no hope of making the grand final let alone winning the comp.

Congrats to the Emus on picking up their first competition points of the season.

Also, the 7Two coverage has improved a lot since the start of the season with new sponsors coming on board. Well down to the guys behind it, as the quote from that baseball movie says 'build it and they will come'. The sponsors have started coming, next the tv viewers and then the live crowds.

4700 at Rat Park today for the Bayfields Cup.
Earlier derby at Manly Oval was 6000-7000.

Crowds are building, especially for the local derbies.

7Two coverage is getting better and better, especially for an operation that is run on the smell of an oily rag.

Gregor George Cup (Club Championship) Watch: (interim)
It is getting tighter at the top as the usual suspects jockey with their positions and consolidate their lead at the top of the table. There is now 68 (LW 81) points separating the top 3 clubs. There is also one hell of a scrap for places 7-10 with 112 (LW 84) points separating the 4 clubs.

There are a maximum of 215 points available to a club each week, based on all 7 club teams winning with a 4 try BP and the target to win is >3000 points which was achieved by 3 clubs last year. In 2014 the difference between 1st and 2nd was only 33 points, with 3rd only 52 points further back.

Eastwood, 2580 points
Sydney University, 2550 points (up 1 place)
Randwick, 2512 points (down 1 place) [Estimated]
Manly, 2255 points
Northern Suburbs, 2067 points
Warringah, 1857 points
Southern Districts, 1597 points (up 1 place)
Eastern Suburbs, 1561 points (down 1 place)
West Harbour, 1514 points (up 1 place)
Gordon, 1485 points (down 1 place)
Parramatta, 1065 points
Penrith, 186 points

How the Club Championship table is calculated.
The competition points from the individual competitions are multiplied by the following factors and then added together.
First Grade - 15
Second Grade - 8
Third Grade - 5
Fourth Grade - 4
Colts 1 - 6
Colts 2 - 3
Colts 3 - 2

The 33 point difference between Gold and Silver last year could have been made up from an extra 2 BP in Shute Shield and an extra BP in Colts 2, or an extra victory without a BP in 2nd Grade and an extra BP in Colts 3.

Finals Watch Update:
My understanding is the finals series will be the following format:
Week 1: 1 vs 6, 2 vs 5, 3 vs 4
Week 2: Top Ranked Winner vs Highest Ranked Loser, 2nd Ranked Winner vs 3rd Ranked Winner
Week 3: Grand Final - Winners of Week 2 games.

On that basis then, using the round 16 ladder we have:
Eastwood vs Sydney University, Manly vs Randwick, and Southern Districts vs Warringah in Week 1 of the Finals.

The Run home:
Eastwood - Currently 69 points. Randwick (A), Warringah (H) - Should win 2/2 and take 1 4T BP to finish on 78 points
Manly - Currently 67 points. Gordon (A), Randwick (H) - Should win 2/2 and take 2 4T BP to finish on 77 points
Southern Districts - Currently 56 points. Penrith (H), West Harbour (A) - Should win 2/2 and take 2 4T BP to finish on 66 points
Warringah - Currently 56 points. Sydney University (H), Eastwood (H) - Could lose 2/2 and take 1 4T BP with 1 <7 point loss BP to finish on 58
Randwick - Currently 48 points. Eastwood (H), Manly (H) - Could lose both and take 1 x 4T BP with 1 x <7 point loss BP to finish on 50 points
Sydney University - Currently 48 points. Warringah (A), Northern Suburbs (H) - Should win 1/2 and take 2 4T BP to finish on 54 points
Northern Suburbs - Currently 42 points. Eastern Suburbs (H), Sydney University (A) - Should win 1/2 and take 2 4T BP to finish on 48 points.

Manly and Eastwood seem to have the top two slots booked, with Southern Districts highly likely to take the 3rd position. It's anyones guess what the order of the next three will be.

50+ points seems to be the cut off for the top six. To get there or close, these folk need to win 2/2 with 4T BPs in each game.
West Harbour on 38 points are probably out of the running for a top 6 finish given that they face: Parramatta (A), Southern Districts (H).
Gordon on 37 points are probably out of the running for a top 6 finish given that they face: Manly (H), Penrith (A).

The Jarseometer prediction for Finals week 1 is now:
Eastwood vs Randwick, Manly vs Sydney University, Southern Districts vs Warringah.

Round 18 Games - 25 July

I would assume that Eastwood v Warringah would be the 7two game in round 18? Or has it not been announced?:)

Well Manly didn't score a point in the last 55 minutes of the match, so you missed none of ours.:)
Best Day Ever!

Big chance Gower will miss mad Monday this year!

To give up without a yelp against the Woods, then to throw away today's game, raises serious questions about their prospects.

It's fine not to have a plan B when your pack monsters everyone, but now that pack is missing Ale,Porecki & now Gower, lack of plan B might be an issue.
