Finals Watch Update:
My understanding is the finals series will be the following format:
Week 1: 1 vs 6, 2 vs 5, 3 vs 4
Week 2: Top Ranked Winner vs Highest Ranked Loser, 2nd Ranked Winner vs 3rd Ranked Winner
Week 3: Grand Final - Winners of Week 2 games.
On that basis then, using the round 15 ladder we have:
Manly vs Sydney University, Eastwood vs Randwick, and Southern Districts vs Warringah in Week 1 of the Finals.
The Run home:
Manly - Currently 65 points. Warringah (A), Gordon (A), Randwick (H) - Should win all 3 and take 2 4T BP to finish on 79 points
Eastwood - Currently 64 points. Eastern Suburbs (H), Randwick (A), Warringah (H) - Should win 2/3 and take 3 4T BP to finish on 75 points
Warringah - Currently 51 points. Manly (H), Sydney University (H), Eastwood (H) - Could lose all 3 and take 1 4T BP with 1 <7 point loss BP to finish on 53
Southern Districts - Currently 51 points. Randwick (A), Penrith (H), West Harbour (A) - Should win all 3 and take 3 4T BP to finish on 66 points
Randwick - Currently 48 points, Southern Districts (A), Eastwood (H), Manly (H) - Could lose all 3 and take 2 4T BP with 1 <7 point loss BP to finish on 51 points
Sydney University - Currently 43 points. Gordon (H), Warringah (A), Northern Suburbs (H) - Should win 2/3 and take 2 4T BP to finish on 53 points
Northern Suburbs - Currently 40 points. West Harbour (H), Eastern Suburbs (H), Sydney University (A) - Should win 2/3 and take 2 4T BP to finish on 52 points
Not too many easy fixtures above in their respective runs home, and we may see the impact of the Super Rugby Paratroopers particularly for Randwick and Sydney University, and also the departure of those selected for other nations for their RWC build ups.
Manly and Eastwood seem to have the top two slots booked, with Southern Districts highly likely to take the 3rd position. It's anyones guess what the order of the next three will be.
50+ points seems to be the cut off for the top six. To get there or close, these folk need to win 3/3 with 4T BPs in each game.
Gordon on 36 points are probably out of the running for a top 6 finish given that they face: Sydney University (A), Manly (H), Penrith (A)
West Harbour on 34 points are probably out of the running for a top 6 finish given that they face: Northern Suburbs (H), Parramatta (A), Southern Districts (H).
The Jarseometer prediction for Finals week 1 is:
Manly vs Northern Suburbs, Eastwood vs Warringah, Southern Districts vs Sydney University.
