I think this argument is pointless because Ned Hanigan is simply not good enough at this stage.
Sam Croke made the Australian U20's - Ned didn't. Most franchises are trying to include all the Australian U20's in squads.
If you don't make the Australian U20's or play 1st grade I would suggest your probably not good enough unless there are special circumstances.
For example Swanepoel and Lucas at Manly. Or one of the six Super Rugby players Manly have played in 2nd grade at some stage this season.

I know it's difficult to compare form in colts with grade, but Hanigan seems to me to have matured and grown in confidence enormously since the few games he played in grade at the beginning of the year. I don't disagree with the comment that he may not be ready yet, but I thought there was a clear intention of exposing some colts players to the NRC and not just the Aussie U20's squad players.

I can't see why it is pointless, when Croke played in what was an average performing 20's side. And to gain base to my argument, that you say is pointless, why is not O'Connor from manly colts, Vea from randwick colts, Perry from canberra not listed? Robertson and Sandell from Uni? Aus 20's players?

How good is Ben Batger, he must the about the unluckiest player of the last decade in terms of gaining higher honours.
I am pretty sure that he represented NSW under 19s in 1999, which would make him at least 33. However, his Wikipedia entry puts his year of birth as 1984.
