Penrith had their first off season training session on tuesday night. Any word on the numbers in attendance?

the coach

I hear that the Mark Hartill and friends of Gordon) led ticket was appointed to the board. The appears to be through mediation, some sort of truce and a united front for Gordon has occurred. I understand that UTS are the new jersey sponsor and there is a massive colts push. Not sure re the merger of the licences club at this stage but sounda like it is progressing.

Any news re the coach for 2013?

Are you willing to wait 3-5 years to find out? or rephrase do you think Penrith can wait 3-5 years to find out? Or do you think they would benefit more from someone stepping in and making a genuine stand for them. Although a third tier comp is needed clubs like Penrith need players and money now. If NSWRU actively direct players to lower clubs or say that they will take a certain number of players from lower clubs into their academy that would be better, than saying we have a third tier competition on the way by 2015-2016 we will put about hundreds of thousands into it and if you can hold on you will eventually reap some benefit.
I agree, but you see players like Kurtley Beale, Dave Dennis, Peter Betham whom claim that theyre proud to be from the west but youll never see them
play for a team out west.

^^^ They've only just arrived. Crikey, something big must be going on.

Someone told me that the club (licenced) was about to be closed and that the aftermatch functions etc would be held in the shared Council's rooms underneath where the ABC has its Camera Tower at Coogee oval.

Thinking positively, at least they still won't have too far to go to have a sherbert after the games.

Sounds like big issues at the traditional stronghold of the east. Both the Wicks and Easts in unchatered territory. Apart from them I reckon the traditional powerhouses will come through. Uni, Manly, Eastwood to be up the top along with a well organised Souths. Maybe the Rats to be the big movers. West harbour to stagnate as will Penrith. Parra not particularly active in the offseason so mid table a good outcome for them. Gordon a battle to stay off the bottom but will always play with passion.

Couldn't care less about Randwick, Easts, Souths, Rats, Penrith.........

But would love to hear your definition of 'not particularly active in the off season' means.

They have done little in the way of recruitment. Parra performed above themselves in 2012 and deserve credit for their finish (all be it aided by the flawed draw). Good to see them proactive in colts but I think as far as the Shute Shield goes they will be hard pressed to get close to matching their 2012 season.

How do you know what we have or haven't done in the way of recruitment? And isn't there also something to be said for the development of what you have got? Be that as it may, recruitment is going very well. We're just not puffing our chests out about who we have got. You'll see them when we want you to.

And yes, the old flawed draw argument. Love it when you bring that out. Show's how naive you really are. When we played Eastwood we had a try besides the post disallowed with 30 seconds remaining and behind by 5. Against Manly we lost 26-19 after having 3 tries disallowed and even an admittance from ARU Refs boss that the ref got the calls wrong. Yes we still lost those games, but we were closer than most actually believe despite the easy out of the 'flawed draw' argument.

At no stage in any of the 18 games we played were we at full strength. No stage. The average age of the side was 20 and a half and it's the insolence of the naive that we can't wait to disprove.....

Doubt this playing group and coaching staff at your peril.

So who have you recruited?

All teams can reflect on a season and say we should have won that game or we were duded in that game. Didn't you beat Wests in a knockout semi with a try or a penalty after the bell?
Everyone wants to see Parramatta do we'll but not just in 1st grade.

Brave predictions in November!
I wouldn't be writing off either Randwick or Easts: their problems at the moment appear to be mainly with their licenced clubs.
It's hard to see either Penrith or Gordon being serious play-off contenders, but with another season where S15 players will play very little part I suggest any of the other clubs could make the playoffs.
I agree though that the winner is probably going to come from Uni, Woods, Manly or Souths.

Nothing like some
Gee..how exciting!!!
Not sure I can bear the suspense until April.
Is this still the Shute Shield we're talking about or have we branched out into something else?
Nothing like some off season drama and intrigue to keep us desperates interested in the barren months. If we don't talk up the Shute Shield, who will? The media clearly don't give a rats.

It is what it is

'The old flawed draw argument'???
It's only been in for a single season and it favoured the bottom 6 teams.
Parramatta's quest for a 2012 semi-final spot was helped by this favourable draw, No Ifs, No Buts, fact.
In 2012 the Shute Shield became the Shute Handicap.
