Forget the incentives etc, they play a part but a big big factor for people who want success is they will want to join a successful Club/Franchise. They will go out of their way to do that. They also want to play with their mates. A few like Barnes may have deeper reasons - didn't he say at one point when he announced that he would play with Uni he wished to further his partnership with Burgess the incumbant and clearly leading 9 for the Tahs?

This whinging is no different from the same treatment that Randwick got when they won 7 Premierships in a row. Calls were made for players to be forced to leave Randwick then as well when the whole Wallaby front row, a backrower, second rower, flyhalf, centres and wing all played for the Wicks. It is a spur to get better and make your club attractive and offer something that makes people want to play there.

True except the focus is now on attracting, nurturing and retaining talent out of the schools, not just between clubs but between codes. The world has moved on and the challenge today is to identify, attract and retain talent.

Not a fan of socialism, give me 8 or 10 great development programs across the city, because Uni don't get them all, they are just doing it better today.

When I was playing it Randwick we all whinged about, at the moment it is Uni, but Souths are giving it a good shake as well

How could anyone not like the Hobbits? They are so cute, running around everywhere with no shoes, little hairy feet.... So likeable.:D

For those without ABC coverage: Randwick vs Eastwood @ Woollahra Oval.
10 minutes : Try to Eastwood - L Turner converted . Woodies 7 - Wicks 0
Woodies have lost #8 to injury after 5 minutes (ankle) Dislocated Left ankle and fracture to McCafferey (looks like it is the end of his year).

Eastwood having the best of the game so far.

Brown (Wicks) just missed penalty kick from just in front.

Woollahra oval looking very patchy. Not much grass cover.

(18 minutes edit. PK by Brown Woodies 7 Wicks 3)

(24 minutes edit. PK missed by Woodies. Woodies certain try blown up due to forward pass.)

(30 minutes edit. Wicks hard on attack but unable to breach Woodies close in defence. No change to score.)

(Half time - Mark Chisholm has bad looking knee damage. Looks like game for him. Tim Maxwell on off bench.
#3 Lote Taukeiaho back on from head wound blood bin ~ 6 minutes off. 38 minutes PK to Batger [ball thrown out by Tombleson]
Eastwood lineout looking scrappy.
Woodies 10 Wicks 3)

Now Chisholm has gone off with a knee injury to add to Cummins' possible shoulder AC injury and McCafferey's sickening broken/dislocated ankle.

2nd Half. 5 minutes Batger scrapes a PK in against Right upright. Woodies 13 - Wicks 3. Eastwood Sub Robinson off, Alexander on.

9 minute Update. Randwick almost try intercepted by Turner from Gilbert Beale speculator pass. Woodies offside. Advantage Wicks. Brown kicks PK. Woodies 13 Wicks 6 .

(edit 12 minute Brown Try ~ 15 metres out for Wicks after good burst by Kepu and Gilbert. Wobbly conversion by Brown. Woodies 13 Wicks 13)

(14 minutes - Gilbert attempting 51 metre PK attempt (Bloomers repeat) after Dunning not rolling away. Same result as Bloomers. FFS at sea level. Just scraped over Wicks 16, Woodies 13)

(16 minutes. Woodies looking a bit unstructured. Offside 25 metres out. PK by Brown off post - no score. Wicks retain possession. Building pressure. Woodies not seeing any pill)

Eastwood are running to the historically non-scoring end of Woolahra in the 2nd half..
Browne needs to hand over the kicking tee to Gilbert

Gotta love the commentary when Eastwood are down by 2 points...

'Eastwood would love to have a field goal kicker'
'Dunning's on the bench'

Wicks V Woodies Quick Summary

Game could have gone either way. Both teams had plenty of opportunity to win game, but it was a typical finals game of defence leading.
Wicks lineout probably better (2 wins off Woodies, 1 win to Woodies off Wicks).

Solid but not spectacular play from both teams. Nervous mistakes on attack forced by pressure from defence.

Horrible injuries to key players from both teams will take the gloss off this game for many.

Scrums were even. Backlines basically nullified each other. No player really stood out, although Gilbert's 51 metre PK was inspirational for Wicks and probably gave them the confidence and momentum to win.

Rocky was solid but unspectacular.

Agreed, Hugh, but I thought Turner was a standout. Plays with real passion, something lacking from a lot of professionals.

I'd probably give Turner the MOM award.

Others I thought went well were Gilbert and Kepu for Wicks.

Both teams really played themselves to a standstill, Full credit to them both.

Exciting game and well played both teams. Another great kick from KB (Kurtley Beale), 51 metres out, and a good all-round game. Also a top effort from Lachie Turner in the losing team - he's a real footie player, isn't he? How good is that Kiwi lock (really a no. 8 methinks) Maninoa, who Randwick got down from Brisbane? Surely we can find a Aussie grandmother for him.

Kepu did his chances to tour no harm at all. It was good to see Ben Alexander back on the park, from the bench but, it would have been better for him had Eastwood gone through to the Grand Final so he could have another game.

Another Uni v Randwick G/F is on the cards. Wacky-do.

God that was a poor game. An absolute shambles.

Agree, but not entirely unexpected. Winner take all Finals footy is seldom attractive free flowing high risk affairs.

Old School low risk defence based pressure building games are typical.

Very tough up front, and both teams know they have played a tough game today.
