So the kid is in the academy despite never applying for it.
The non-application was successful.
The boy and the family do not know that their boy has been accepted into an academy programme thay did not apply for.
The administrators of the academy programme have not contacted the family or the boy to confirm that their choild has been accepted into the District academy despite the family not applying for a position in the academy.

This lad sounds like an excellent prospect for The Bye given the above circumstances! Anyone who can make such a fist of a non-application would be an asset to The Bye in these difficult times! :)

I was speaking to a Dad on the weekend who's boy has been confirmed as being in one of the Shute Shield district academies for the summer development programmes.

The interesting thing is that the family did not apply for a position in the academy for "their precious" and the District has never communicated with the family to say that they were considering that child as an applicant for the academy, nor that they had decided to accept that athlete into the academy (in the absense of any application to join the academy).

So the kid is in the academy despite never applying for it.

Go figure.

And we wonder why the grass roots are disillusioned with the rhetoric from all levels about what a great job they are doing to grow Heavensgame.

Its one of those new fangled opt out academies - god help you if you dont turn up to one of their sessions: you can check out but you can never leave.

The presentation I witnessed these kids see from Aware Education was brilliant. All about Choices, Social Media and the unknown facts of posting on Social Media. This presentation spoke to the boys about their Profile being their "Brand" so be careful of what you advertise your brand to be.
As a parent was very inmpressed with the honesty, legal information and up to date information these kids need to be aware of, implicated in using not just social media but the internet. Making good choices - on the field and more importantly off the field in their development.
One impressed Rugby Mum

My snout in the NGS said that the boys had a full day session with Michael Jeh (http://michaeljeh.com/) about the life skills aspects of being a professional athlete. Parents were invited to attend the last hour of the day. As well as the presenter there was apparently a hard arse Senior Sergeant from the Police there to present the "facts from the street".

Reports from parents and boys was very positive. Well done ARU.

Bit of a surprise to see more ISA representation than CAS.

Have you got a breakdown by association - ISA vs CAS vs CCC vs CHS in particular. Obviously GPS numbers will be high.

If there are large (or increasing) numbers of CCC and CHS kids in the programme, it could imply that there are programmes in place to grow Rugby in these "target rich" environments.

George Smith, do you have the breakdown for the NGS?

I'd wager to suggest that George Jnr is in the Programme.

With a boy in the programme and the way facebook is nowdays, it probably didn't take too much to assemble the list.

George's lists are usually pretty much on the money.

This a very useful breakdown George, I can use this down in the Illawarra to help overcome the Private school preception issue as:
  • Holy Spirit Bellambi got 3 in (Gareth Thomas, Kieran Bonin and Tristan Green, some of you have been following these guys).
  • Berkley sports high got at least 2 (Tommy Sawden, Reece Hewat).
  • Many from other CCC schools and CHS.
I'll work and produce a more complete breakdown, but this gives me good amunition to counter the "you have to go to a rugby private school to make it in rugby" perception.

Hugh Jarse

Rocky Elsom (76)
@ Hughie,

Those figures would be good to see.
For the Metro I see that ISA have 12 (Augies) + 9 (Oakhill) + 8 (Pats) = 29 compared with CAS 8 (knox) + 6 (trinity) + 3 (Barker) = 17, and CHS 6 (Westfields) + 5 (Hills) + 4 (Endeavour) + 4 (Prairewood) = 19.

Metro CCC Schools dont seem to get much of a look in with no one School seeming to have more than 3.

Be aware that there ar apparently 40 Metro boys tucked away in the NGS (Sydney) which may slightly skew George Smiths initial figures.
I would imagine that the Scots numbers (currently 4) would increase slightly as I am aware of at least 4 Scots boys in the NGS.

Some of the boys you mentioned performed with credit in the National U16's for NSW Country team.

That list is far too detailed to be derived from FB or George Jnr's knowledge given that George Jnr would only know about boys at his JGP venue and then again probably only the boys in his age bracket. Given that the ARU has not published a list as they did last year I expect George Snr has some relationship with the ARU Jnr HPU either directly or perhaps as one of their talent scouts.

Gents,
The list is from the initial invitations only. Since then quite a few lads declined and some were given late invitations to NGS.

Yeah........ sure George.
We're watching you. Be vewy vewy careful.

Actually you are probably right CTPE, that was a very good list and would have taken some extraction.
Also agree with Hughie, it is a perception .... any ammunition is good ammunition in this case.

Hughie, I understand what you are trying to achieve but you will fall into statistical error due to small samples as you drill down. If you want to take the argument to your stakeholders in the Illawarra I suggest you contact the HPU guys and ask for specific stats for your argument. If you don't get any joy then come back to G&G and we will help you!
