Slade converts under pressure, 8 points ahead. Cusiter and Brown on, all out attack. Ball spilled. 4 to go, Scrum, NZ feed absolute center.

Scotland will be disappointed with the scrum, an area they should've gone in with confidence with. Lost them the game. Defence was outstanding in patches but some silly errors like trying to play in their 22 were crucial.

The major problem here is that we matched them mistake for mistake. On a day where they made a shitload of them, we couldn't make the most of our opportunities.

Somewhere between the Scotland of last week and the Scotland of old.

Scotland just not good enough. They had a real chance today but didn't deliver a performance to justify anything better than they got.

NZ reserves did what they needed but it wasn't a great performance from them. Carter looked understandably rusty. Their bench helped them to see out the game but they didn't exactly come home at a canter.

Poor quality game overall. But hey 80 minutes of rugby is better than anything else on TV atm.

Losing Bennett and Murray hurt. Then all over the place for the remainder of the first half.

Good defence mostly. Missed penalty from Laidlaw was frustrating.

Lineout excellent, scrum not so much. Problem with the Props, the Hooker or the Locks? And can we fix it in time for 6N?

With the Pro12 back, I'd be ringing in the changes, and giving the exiles the starts against Tonga next week.

Arrogant.

Pathetic.

Let's see Fat Guts Hansen try and laconically spin that one to the press.

Recalls Vito from the wilderness and IMMEDIATELY entrusts him to call the lineout in a test match to a brand new front 5 replete with a S15 backup hooker who somehow finds himself on debut for his country? And hello, it COMPLETELY falls apart.

One fucked up 70th pen miss by a 4 from 4 kicker from shitting all over a 109 year unbeaten record.

A clusterfuck

The Alan Parsons Project not off to a flash start.

Dan Carter not only shat the bed I think he got some on the headboard too.

Dominic Bird, wafting around like a big baby giraffe, thanks for the memories just fucking go away.

Perenara the real step down though, a 3rd-gear shit sandwich of hopelessly telegraphed box kicks and Weepu-slow decisions from ruck base.

And it still got the job done.

Essentially confirmed that your second stingers, (exception of Thrush, Cane, Slade and one or two others) are not there yet.

Was about what I expected, in the end a lot of it showed that they hadn't actually played together much, a lot like a first up test in season where timing etc is just slightly off! Also Scots tore into defensive work pretty well.
Not one of the flasher tests I have seen, but I think Shag has probably got out of it what he wanted, a win, and a look at how a lot of the other boys went!
Bloody pleased to see Thrush get MOTM, as I suspect although he played bloody well ,come test time next year he won't be in squad with Whitelock, Rettallic, Romano and Tuipulotu as the 4 for next year!

The Single Malts blew their best chance to beat New Zealand A, proving that the aura of infinite depth in NZ rugby is a myth.

Notwithstanding the fumbling display from the Black Shirts, does this result match mean NZ "A" would slot in at about 10 on the IRB ranking list?

Seeing as they just beat the 8th ranked side at home, I reckon they'd be a bit higher. Maybe 7 (ahead of Wales) but definitely behind France.

There's not the same depth as in 06/07 but considering the result they've still got the best depth in the world.

How on earth are you rating France? They were shithouse in last 3 six nations. Lost very game of tour in 2014 and to us by a lot to a few and somehow they are better than Wales. I sense the kiwi cringe factor

If you mean me - I don't necessarily think France are consistently better than Wales at the moment (but they are ranked ahead of them) but I'd back that AB B/C team as a better chance of beating Wales than beating France. Both of them are hugely inconsistent at the moment, to be honest.

George Smith (75)
Meh, I reckon it's a legitimate discussion. AB depth is very good in some positions but piss awful in others, hooker & halfback especially. There's a bunch of quite good halfbacks but none of them are close to Smith and none can emulate his game with any real success.

I don't disagree but old mate HJ was clearly fishing, as is his wont, almost took it myself but thought, nah, let someone else have at it.

Exactly. The French can be shithouse 98% of the time but have a nasty (for us) habit of pulling out the 2% of genius against us. Eden Park 1979 (& who the fuck decided to play that on Bastille Day?), twice in 1994, coupla RWC matches I'd rather forget..........
