School sporting scholarships/recruitment

My point is that there has already been 71,150 views on the 2016 GPS thread and 61,790 on the CAS and it is only the 5th April.
And just 5,553 views on the ISA thread.

Not sure that that many are bothered by what happens at that school in Brookvale.
SDW is obsessed with events at Brookvale.

Can't explain why there is less interest in ISA than GPS and CAS. Can only guess that the Dad's just aren't fanatics or else oblivious to the world of Green and Gold.

Im going to fire things up here: Im not so sure that none (as in "not one") of them is "sporting based", depending on what that means. If someone who would not otherwise attend the school is offered a spot, not on academic, artistic, musical or other talent and just happens to be very good at a particular sport I'm tempted to call that a sporting scholarship.
Nice bait @IS.

I can tell you all the schorships. There are very few non academic or music based. (the Smith and Hawkins scholarships. The Travers exhibition, plus a few very minor awards)

I actually think you have less chance of obtaining one of these if your boy excells at sport. There is such a bias against anything that could be deemed to be a sporting scholarship.

SDW obsessed?! I resemble that remark

What I know about st augustines ..I could fit on a postage stamp....
So far from being an insider.

I know they have become quite the rugby nursery ,but the

Northern beaches couldn't care less

I certainly don't know of any st auggies student that has an NRL club paying fees, unlike other schools
So calling that bs ... Besides manly nrl could hardly organise a chook raffle

You only have to try and get a beer (or go to the dunny) at brookvale

I know st augustines had a hissy fit when $cots tried to poach a number of players (a few years back)

I know of a few Flexi type arrangements where say a kid at a cheaper catholic school was able to move to st auggies and continue to pay the same fees

Know of a kid that attended st auggies and was on an aru scholarship ... But given aru seem as tight as a fishes bum, don't know if that really amounted to much ... And said kid is now in NRL fold

Few other things been told ... And sounds like 3 main power brokers at st augs on the rugby front ... And as a betting man will be curious to see if one of them becomes clearys replacement

Hint his son is a rather handy 7s player , speed to burn and recent school leaver , but didn't attend st auggies... See if anyone can guess ... No prize though

Inside shoulder, trust me shore has an all rounder scholarship ... Know a person that was on it ... And
Shore just likes to be holier than though

more interested to know when shore is going to pull their heads out and move forward on indigenous scholarship ... That is 50 years overdue

Someone is paying for the Islander boys to go to school. DELETED?

Sent from my D6503 using Tapatalk

Not sure if that's correct. Not all islander families are impoverished and unable to afford/not interested in an education.

It does seem that there are more than a few boys who join the school at Year 9 or after and nearly all it seems fit straight into rugby A teams.

Not my info sorry to say QH - a club not going as well as they would like (which rules out all but whoever is on top of the comp, I guess) with some very strange conditions, I hear.

It would be interesting if Manly are paying any fees. They're allegedly almost broke aren't they - which may or may not mean anything.

So after more than 6000 posts the song remains the same and Hotel California still has a vacancy sign up even though it has a 100% occupancy rate....

@SDW, how many open teams and how many teams in each age group to St Augustines field? Are the lower grades competitive?

From what I have been told St Augustine's move to the ruffian's game was part of a conscious and holistic cultural shift for the school. It would seem the value has been a little lost on disciples either of the Gentleman's games. From what I have seen it has been 4-5 years since they were the subject of this microscope. I reckon if you build a reputation you will attract climbers. If you were offering scholarships to improve your rugby status you would target a players from few key positions. These did seem to be left to organic development at the school over the past couple of years
I wouldn't be looking to a league club to assess and pay for a functional front row
a paucity in halves would be a target have they addressed that in the past?

[content deleted by mods - Don't push the envelope here. There is a degree of latitude not in other threads, but that doesn't mean this is a free for all]

@Blindsideflanker, if you cared to read the recent posts, I think you will find there is a fair body of opinion that thinks maybe some very talented rugby boys are getting financial assistance to attend this school.

Yes I may have been politically incorrect and used the word Islander. And Yes they may be being paid for by their parents, just so happens the Islander boys attending the school are all good rugby players.

I think it is pretty common knowledge on the Northern Beaches that St Augustines' are very open to offering scholarships.

Had you have said that a few weeks back, I would have been inclined to disagree. However, since it's been mentioned on these threads I've asked around. Every past or current parent that I have spoken to has said that they think it goes on - one went on for 15 minutes about it to me at club rugby last Sunday.

Maybe the go to A's cause they talented. Maybe they go to school cause that is their parents choosing and their free will !

No evidence of any scholarships ... You lads just spread rumour and innuendo with talk that my friend heard from their cousin who heard from their next door neighbour whose friend goes to the school bla bla..... None of this would get into court cause its all hearsay evidence. Full of assumptions to try and justify your own ignorant beliefs.

St. Augs are just as guilty as other GPS schools ie new and scots for example. Wether that be scholarships or third parties via Leaugue clubs. To deny it is naive and misinformed. Simple fact st augs winning attracts enrolments away from other competitors.
