If he doesn't qualify for a bursary, then he has little hope. What hope does the talented kid from Morningside High have?
But the good news is,very, very few talented kids don't qualify.

All the above scenarios are highly unlikely to occur.
And don't get me wrong I love joeys rugby . But ultimately it is healthy to have a contest
A fair amount of expected tut tutting about the nasty schools that may have different financial arrangements with some lads who happen to be talented athletes, but I don't see the commensurate level of whinging about the AAGPS vs CAS score, or that 6 schools and a couple of guests from other schools manage to get 4 Association representative sides in the NSW All Schools trials.
Are Scholarships/Bursaries/Poaching/Cheating/Fee Relief/Irregularities considered OK if "we" (or our Oscar's rep team) win.

The simple reason is that the CAS old boys/rabid fathers, bar one school, are not obsessed with rugby.
But if the scholarship boys were eliminated from GPS the games might be a bit closer: however in terms of level playing fields, scholarships are not outlawed in the CAS - they just have the good taste not to let the tail wag the dog for the most part.
Did I see an advertisement on the big Joeys scoreboard ( or it could have been in the match program) directing prospective parents/boys to enquire about Joeys bursary program??So sports scholarships are ok if they enable schools to beat Joeys?
BTW, I don't believe that Joeys are as pure as some of their supporters make out. Co-incidentally, many of their bursary recipients happen to be good at rugby.
Quire bizarre really. The association that permits it is weaker and doesn't seem to bastardize the comp. (understand recent behaviour at Knox might be changing that). The simple reason is that the CAS old boys/rabid fathers, bar one school, are not obsessed with rugby.

@NIS, do you have any specific information to share about the "recent behaviour at Knox" assuming you are referring to scholarships as distinct from hothousing behaviour?Quire bizarre really. I couldn't agree more. Well said, good post.NIS, I think SDW is on the right track - a school seeking to focus their rugby players on little else but rugby 9 mths a year with a view to the (CAS) world domination you refer to. I don't agree with it and think boys should play summer sport. But so long as its the home grown product, its a lot less offensive than parachuting in a crack 1st XV in time for next year's shield.
See post #5727.That was meant to say tildesley tennis . Spell check so annoying
My point .complete dominance is not good
Look at trinity grammar and their swimming record in the cas .
12 consecutive years!
Everyone else has given up . Not good . Embarrassing really.
Oh and they are building a new better pool

Why?
My gut feel only, based on Shore's respect for the tradition of GPS competition.
The forfeit option if safety was to be a primary concern (as Nick Farr-Jones suggested last year) has the greatest chance of occurring.
