This was in response to a comment about last year's forward packs. I agree that Butler is very good but still think he's unlikely to be in the frame for the RWC but Pocock and Butler were certainly not better last year than Hooper and Palu.

You might prefer those players as a Brumbies fan but trying to claim that two of the best forwards in the winning side in 2014 weren't well ahead of them is pretty far off the mark.
Matter of opinion over Hooper. I'm on the side of a 7 doing the traditional 7's role. Each to their own opinion.

It's a very tough call, because both players have quite different styles, but they're also exceptional players. What I hope first and foremost is that Squeak is fit so he can captain the side, because then Chieka has more flexibility in selection without having to worry about who leads the team.

There are a number of scenarios that could play out, like Pocock starting against the bigger packs and bossing the breakdown, with Hooper coming on later to do those trademark metres in close. Another could be Hooper starting against an athletic pack and tackling/running himself to a standstill and Pocock creating mayhem at the tackle area to close out a game. There could also be a two opensides formation too, though it's less likely. Having both of them in the same squad if fit and in form massively boosts our chances of winning big games.

off topic but if there is a way to play both Hooper & Pocock in the starting wallabies team i think it should be done. They are the only aussie two forwards who put fear into the opposition. Carter & Simmons...? Whilst they aren't bad players, they look like baby faced bitches.

Just rewatched the game

Thought Sio and Mann-Rea really had strong games for the Brumbies, as did White. I know not many people hold this opinion but I truly believe he is the best - or at least the most rounded scrumhalf in Australia.

It seems he is using the box-kick sparingly which is a good thing. Still can't believe we couldn't keep him around with Genia leaving, as he is coming into his prime. Massive oversight

Regarding Horwill, it looks like he is going through the motions. Really brainless penalties by him when he should be setting an example for the younger guys.

The sooner Rob Simmons is fit and available the better, because you don't want Horwill and O'Donoghue on at the same time. The Reds will be stuck in their own half all day.

I hold that opinion about White as well but apparently it's not right because I support the wrong team

I'd rather the Brumbies pack. Potgieter was the only standout in the Tahs pack last year

Well, I'd rather have the pack that won the competition last year.

Congrats to the Brums - complete domination

Reds had too many young blokes and some old blokes just fucking poor.

Genia was poor but to be fair the forwards went backwards tall night.

Hunt was exposed at 10 but similar to comment above.

Our backs were shit shit and shit. The Ponies made great metres nearly every time they had the ball. We need Ant in there to smash in defence.

Horwill was disgraceful.his performance was stupid and reckless. I think 3 penalties in first 12 minutes put us so much on the Blackfoot we were nearly fucked at that point.

Funny I raised stuff about this bloke last season and was flogged by some. Unfortunately I feel vindicated and others should have a good look at themselves.

No wonder there was a player discontent with him resulting in him"stepping down" as captain . I wouldn't have him in the team again. He certainly won't be in the RWC squad. I reckon it was a shit decision to "rest" Slipper and bring a sub standard Daley into the fray. Slipper should have been left on the field until the last 10 to accept the TEAM loss.

Obviously there is a wee bit of criticism of RG, we'll a lot really. His sweating of bullets will continue

No doubt we will bounce back . JOC (James O'Connor) to 10 Hunt to 15, Thomson to 6

I think the vindictiveness against Horwill is just a bit overboard.
Sure, the guy had a bad night on the paddock. But some of the comments I'm reading here about him make me wonder if I shouldn't move away from this forum.
He did bad, sure. But what will be the comments from the mud slingers when he comes out and has a big game, and it will happen.
If you were a past Reds/Queensland or ex-Super player, then you would be qualified to make the uncomplimentary remarks that appear here.
But I seriously doubt that any of those players would stoop to the low levels seen here.
But Big Kev is a great servant of Reds/ Wallabies rugby, and I wish him luck for the rest of the season.

Gotta agree wholeheartedly with Bairdy re White, thought it was one of best halfback performances by an aussie for a while, I know he was behind a dominant pack, but he did something not often seen over here , played heads up rugby, he almost looked like a player who didn't spend all his young years at an academy being coached systems, but played what was in front of him.

Firstly its a shame I had to scroll through so many comments about the Tahs forward pack (surley there is another forum somewhere that their praises can be sung considering not one of them played in the Brumbies vs Reds match).

While I am thrilled with the Brumbies win and thought they played fantastic football, looking more and more like the Brumbies of the early 2000's, something about the Reds performance left me feeling a little empty. Weird, as a true blooded Brumbies fan I dislike the Reds, but I found it pretty sad to see how badly they did, especially Horwill. Knock him all you want, but for a long time he was pretty important to Aussie rugby.

The Brumbies still have a few things to improve on, a lot of silly knock ons cost us even more points. But its hard to pick out a player that didn't stand up and do his job. Coleman really impressed, such a little toughie! And I agree with those saying White was good, he made great decisions and his kicking for touch was spot on. Yes, I think he does offer more than Phipps as he does have the big boot. Great to see CL's got his radar back.

Best of all ... POEY!! could barely watch any time he went into contact (which was a lot) but he is back and looking great. Amazing form really considering he has only played 5 games in 2 years.

Great start to the season, here's hoping there's lots more to come.

Mixed feeling. I too felt pretty empty for about 10 minutes as I don't like to see any team getting thrashed by that much, however it did give me a certain amount of joy to raise my middle finger at those who believed the Brums would play a dour, boring game. Game on, I say :)

I was one that expected boring Brumbies rugby

Fuck, I was wrong.

Exciting and expansive was the result, at least from one side anyway

Horwill great service to Qld has never been in question by anybody.

The bloke was a champion.

He wasn't the only under performer out there. There were plenty. And of course that then affected the rest of the teams performance.

But Kev's performance was special and set the stage for the evening.

I suppose I was really pissed off because we had recruited well, new captain, enthusiastic, the build-up during the off season, the expectation that the Reds were back, blah blah and blah - and then Friday night came around !

Bit like the fat kid finally getting into the lolly shop just to find the jelly beans were gone
