Paarl if you read the quotes he hardly endorsed the idea of a merger. He just said it was an idea worth considering, no doubt trying to appease the Saffa meda that were asking the questions...
Well us Saffers made peace long ago that we are stuck with the Kings. The Lions are gone and the only thing they can hope for is that we may have promotion/relegation going. Just try to educate the uninformed.

Jake: Oz Conference weakest

2012-05-17 11:00

Canberra - Speaking to Darren Scott in an interview with Ballz Visual Radio, former Springbok and current Brumbies coach Jake White has admitted that Australia has the weakest conference, but defended the Super Rugby Conference system.

VIDEO: Jake White interview

“There is no doubt that Australia has the weakest five teams now as a conference,” White said, but suggested that the situation might change in the future.

“People forget that a couple of years ago South African teams were languishing at the bottom of the Super Rugby table. To be fair, I think it goes in cycles.”

White went on to point out that the Rebels' recent victory over the Crusaders and the Reds' win over the Chiefs proved that Australian teams were competitive in Super Rugby.

White also expressed hope that the Lions would shock the Reds this weekend to improve his team’s chances of topping their conference.

“I would love the Lions to pull off a win against the Reds to help the Brumbies,” White admitted.

Things may look decent in SA now with the Cheetahs finally getting it together but let's not forget that that the Lions and Cheetahs were both consistently bad for a very long time.

No Australian team has displayed that kind of consistently poor results.

That's true but give the Rebels a few more years to catch up with the Force ;)

The thing with the Lions and Cheetahs is that we weren't in a conference style comp so everyone got a chance to put a win on them creating a bit more of a level playing field.

I don't honestly think it makes THAT much of a difference though. The good teams are good and the bad teams sit at the bottom. It's only 1 or 2 teams who sit just within reach of the top 6 who it may occasionally impact. And then I'm sure that those teams can all point to games and moments in the season where they had their destiny in their own hands....
