This is OK because it's a RWC, but normally in rugby the host country changes colours. This is - traditionally - to save touring sides from having to bring a entire spare kit for the whole team, but was continued as an act of hospitality. This is another rugby tradition that is being killed and one that I'm pissed off about.

Maybe NZ will say - no, we're the hosts, we'll change strip. ::)

The AB's wore black in 1987, the French were still wearing their classic blue jersey back then - no clash.

Whoops you would be right to Jay, what the hell game was I thinking of?? Hell dimentia must be coming!!

This seems to have changed in recent years - in 09 when the AB's played France, the French wore white in NZ while the AB's wore white in France.

This still applies when we play Scotland. Last end of year tour we wore black over there. For some reason they haven't toured here since 2000 (and wore navy blue) but I think its safe to assume we would change for them.

Rughy Honours for Sir Richie?

http://www.smh.com.au/rugby-union/union-news/all-blacks-have-the-power-to-conquer-the-world-and-really-shake-the-isles-20111021-1mcab.html

Part of Grumbles article from today's Herald.

Now there is the chance for some real New Zealand heroes to be rewarded. Brad Thorn's All Blacks career ends tomorrow night, while Richie McCaw will probably be knighted if they win.

We knighted Sir Richie quite some time ago Grumbles. Try and keep up will you. :)

Edit:
And from Gregor Paul in the NZ Herald

.....Arise Sir Richie of the Ridiculous. It has a ring to it......

Heard him called all sorts of things but Sir Richie of the Ridiculous is an absolute belter of a title.???

French are usually due one good game per tournament, which as yet they have'nt had, could be the next one, France on paper have all they need perhaps NZ are lucky to be playing on grass:lmao:

The jersey clashing thing these days is getting a bit more like soccer where it's deemed the away strip of a team. Also wouldn't be surprised to see 2nd strip more often because they want to sell more of them rather than it being a necessity to change due to a clash.

Now I know France is NZ traditional bogey side, but just to get the history in place. The Frogs beat them in 1999, 2007 and they won of the matches in tour in New Zealand in the last couple of years as well.

Is this the extent of it? or does the history of upsets run further back in history?

Thanks in advance

We have played france 50 times for 37 wins and 1 draw. Average score is 25-13 in AB's favour. Average tries scored is 3-1 in favour of the AB's. That is a decent record against us as most nations go (SA and Aus, at a push, may have a better record)

Having said that France do have a special place in history because of the world cup upsets and the 2-0 win in '94 which is the last time anybody won at Eden Park.

Also the '79 game on Bastille day was a famous win, again at eden park

Mind you Grubs, the french have knocked us out of WC twice, as have Wallabies, so really no more a bogey side than wallabies, just like you say they have beaten us on Eden park

Starting to get a bit nervous.
The garden has been given a good thrashing over the a last couple of days since the rivers are too dirty to go fly fishing. Great way to relieve stress, slashing weeds and setting fire to stuff. Already been told off for topping a bush little shorter than my wife would like. She shouldn't put me in charge of electric hedge clippers then.
My youngest can sense my worry. He just said to me, "Don't worry, if we lose we will just go out and smash everyone again like we always do."

There was no real reason why SA needed to wear white against Samoa, so your second sentence may have been bang on there.

The French jersey hardly looks French anymore. It looks more like a defective Force jersey.

Keep these types of posts coming. I have more or less tuned out of the RWC but hearing and reading about some of the tension from the Kiwi and French supporters is reminding me that todays game is definitely worth a look.

If you're really worried there might still be time for the blacks to pull out, I am sure the Wallabies would be happy to have a crack :D

I hope the French live up to their word of targeting McCaw's foot, it is a sound tactic, if the Kiws want to send an injured player out, then that player is fair game.
Viva Le France!

It is fair game, it isn't tiddlywinks, if the kiwis want to send an injured player out, that is their perogative, however the French are under no obligation to play nice. As long as the tactics used by the french aren't illegal, then go for it, an accidental step on his foot here, there and everywhere, all is fair in love and war. But then again even if they are illegal who cares, as it's not as if the Kiwis won't be offside all night at the breakdown, I say go for it France, always attack the weakest link, and in this case it is McCaws foot.
