Alternatively, the Pool of Death was so strong that England were made to look silly despite playing at home in front of huge crowds supporting them.

Wales were excellent despite a crushing injury toll and it took a sublime bit of play from a recent World Rugby player of the year nominee to set up the winning try in the final minutes to knock them out in the quarter finals. That side then took the current World Champions down to the wire and only lost by 2 points in the semi final.

The group was topped by the brilliant Wallaby team who rose to the occasion and fought their way to top the Pool of Death and progressed undefeated through to the final.

The conclusion to the story will be told on Sunday morning.

I'm fairly sure what happened 4 years ago will not be playing on the mind of anyone on the field, even the AB's!

I think the biggest mental hurdle would be the fact that they are playing in a RWC Final, one win away from the biggest win of their lives and one loss away from the worst loss.

Wholeheartedly agree. Just having a bit of fun with the claims it's the ABs that will be "fearing".

There will be nerves in players on both sides. Experience will be critical. Both teams have plenty of it. But both teams also have some relative newbies (eg Kurindrani, NMS) that may feel the nerves more than others.

I very much doubt what fans, newspapers, social media sites say will mean much to how the teams prepare.

The biggest thing as is usually the case at this end of a WC is who has niggles and how are they being managed. Of course the coaches will come out early and say "everyone fit" and may throw a couple of shots across the bow "they're number 1" "they've got out of the toughest pool" etc, but the coaches and all will be doing all they can to keep the heads right and the preparation on song.

Apparently Sir Richie was observed buying a whistle by a member of the referee appointments board. The board decided to advise Grant Fox of Owens appointment to the final and therefore Sir Richie could leave his new toy in the sheds on finals day.

Seems like there's a bit more interest in the Wallabies recovery session than usual.
